Don't they realize that if they just keep piling it right by the drain it's only going to REcontribute to the flooding? They should be loading the stuff into a dump truck and carting it off to where its melting won't gum up the works again. That's what they do around here, or try to anyway. Some winters it just gets away from 'em.

Ha Ha! Was that duck picture there all along? How'd I miss it the first time? I thought it was bad that ducks live in what is really a drainage ditch that runs down the middle of a street near me (it's called a "creek" but....). Have you sent this picture to your town planners/maintenance people? To the newspaper? That should stir things up a bit.

Julia This happens at least to some extent every spring.

MohYou are correct that the ducks were NOT in the article when you first saw it. :) I wrote the article then went into town, when I came back my husband told me about the ducks and showed me the picture he shot. I couldn't resist editing the article to add the ducks.

The "pond" is drained now today. I think they got at least one of the drains cleared.

Your article and photos brought Spring memories of my childhood back to me, M.K. (Just across the Missouri River from you in Minot, N.D.) The crocuses popped up and we wondered if the snow and slush would be gone by Easter. If that white stuff melted before the ground thawed, FLOOD! You can't fight Mother Nature.
