For me, it's all about comfort and appeal. I like a tea cup with a sturdy handle, thick walls, and a good curve to the cup. One I can wrap my hands around on a cold day to get a dose of extra- cozy warmth.
Okay, I guess that means I prefer tea mugs, not cups.
In The Ultimate Tea Diet, Dr. Tea suggests that you pick your cup with care and find favorites to enhance the experience. I have to agree that by doing so, I know have developed a familiar ritual of sorts when I make hot tea. I have three favorite cups that I gravitate towards time and time again. It adds a little special sum-thin :)
First is my standard favorite. A lovely stoneware set that my husband inherited from his mother. It's perfect for my morning tea and while it may sound silly, it makes me feel more connected to my hubby and his family.
Second, is my old favorite coffee cup. This is a stoneware mug I received from a dear online friend when we did a town trade swap (we exchanged boxes filled with items from our area.) The cup depicts pictures of lighthouses in Maine, and it's an absolutely lovely, perfectly weighted and formed cup. Makes me think of friends, fun, and travel. I use this one when I make Chai tea as I generally use Chai to replace my coffee cravings.
(And I now prefer Chai!)
Last up, is a lovely pottery piece handcrafted, by request, from Bybee Pottery in Bybee, KY. This is one of my favorite shops in the state. They still produce the Pottery in the same building constructed in the late 1800's and despite the fact that they are famous (they even sell their pieces to Macy's,) their prices are exceptional reasonable. The set of two I ordered came with matching coasters, that also double as a cover or a tea bag holder, and have a built in curve for a spoon rest!
As they offer a very generous well, I use these for Hot Todtea, sometime for Chai, and even for Frosteas. Or just when I'm in the mood for a generous serving of hot tea. This cup appeals to my inner artist.
Do you have a favorite cup? What style of cup do you prefer? Do you have a unique cup? Please share!

I have a vivid blue mug with a city scene that I love, a pottery-looking one with flowers and a little lady bug that I also love, and a black one with a calla lily design.
For larger drinks, I have a shocking green and blue giant plastic mug from Iams pet food that I have been using for years. It holds the temperatures nicely.
I think I need a cup of tea right now. ;-)
I like tea in china tea cups such as the ones originally owned by my great grandmother in the 19th century.
usually though, i let my tea cool and drink it out of a glass
