Thirty-some days ago, I would have adamantly argued that caffeine does not have much of an effect on my body. After all these years of drinking Diet Coke, coffee, and so on... I never felt jumpy or wired. So, it really didn't bother me anymore, did it?
Wrong!
Since I've switched to the tea diet and kept my caffeine use to a minimum, I have:
- experienced a better quality of sleep
- have less trouble falling asleep at night
- feel less stress and more calm
- am less irritable
- have far fewer cravings for sugar
- have more energy than ever!
"Wait," you say, "tea has caffeine!"
True.
But, I toss away the first brew, which contains most of the caffeine; drink a lot of white tea which has very low levels of caffeine; and also try to drink a lot of decaf tea.
I'm not bashing caffeine... for some people, it's a help and studies do show there are some benefits to coffee, etc. For someone like me, though, with sleep apnea and hypothyroidism, caffeine is not a good friend.
I know this now, thanks to Gather and Dr. Tea. :)
What are your thoughts?
PS- There's another hidden bonus to choosing tea over diet soda's or coffee, etc... it's far less expensive = making tea drinking a true, frugal friend!
Hugs,
Barb

I got that White Pear and it says right on the back how much it has compared to coke, coffee etc. It has MORE than coffee and soda does!
Maybe that's a rare example? I don't know but I was astounded to learn that.
Caffeine Meter:
Double Expresso - 160
Drip Coffee - 90
Antioxidant Plum White Tea - 55
Cola - 45
Decaf Coffee - 5
Herb Tea - 0
Okay not more than coffee, but more than cola.

It is totally true how big of a difference it can make when your not drinking it anymore.
I went to my library website to see if they have the book and they did. I put it on reserve. So hopefully I'll be able to get it soon.
I really want to know the benefits of it and also what kinds to try out.
You mentioned that some tea doesn't even contain tea so I'm wondering about what brands are best.
There is so many out there right now. I noticed the other day just at the grocery store ther is a slew of them to pick out of. I really like the flavored tea so this might be a great way for me to lose weight as well.
I've been looking for a way that I can enjoy and I think this might be the ticket to it. Thanks for sharing the information and I think I'm going to join your group just to see what everyone is saying about it.
Congratulations on what you have done so far. You have inspired me today to start something good for me and my body. Plus my husband benefits too.
Have a great day and enjoy your tea!! :0)
Sometimes the teas represented as white teas actually contain green tea, too. I have one from Lipton like that and it has 29mg of caffeine per serving. But all the pure white teas I have have 10 or less mg. Compared to a Diet Coke at 45mg or an average cup of coffee at 135mg, even if I don't toss out the first brew, white tea is far less potent.
Swapping two cups of white tea at 20 mg of caffeine, in the morning, vs two cups of coffee at 270mg does make a dramatic difference (for me.) Throughout the rest of the day, I drink decaf tea, toss out the first brew if I want a tea with caffeine, or drink water.
There's a whole section in The Ultimate Tea Diet book about caffeine too, and the differences in tea verses other forms of caffeine. It's an eye opener! (LOL pardon the pun.)
I have been using bags multiple times, knowing that by the second cup, the caffeine is pretty much gone, but I guess that I really need to cut back on the biggie, Diet Coke. If I get just one of the great results on your list, it would be worth it.
Was it hard for you to cut back? Did you notice??
You have done so well with this challenge, BTW. You are an inspiration:)
The first couple days of ditching my Diet Coke (I drank 1 to 2 liters a day) and coffee habit was difficult. I did it the way the book suggests, by swapping out tea for my favorite beverages, but allowing myself to have a Diet Coke, if I just felt I had to have a glass- then jumping right back on the tea wagon.
It didn't take long as I began to feel some of the positive effects (feeling hydrated, less hungry, and more energized) within days. That made it easier and easier to cut out the soda completely.
Coffee was a little harder for me until I found Chai tea. Now when I'm looking for the comfort coffee used to deliver, I brew up (toss out the first brew) a good cup of Chai- delicious! I recently found decaf versions of Chai too :)
You can do it, Gwen! And I'll make a bet that you will experience the great results!
Many hugs,
Barb
plain water is still the best though.
