I thought it would be harder to do, really I did... but it's only been a little over a week that I've been substituting tea for all my other beverages, allowing myself a cup of coffee or a diet coke once a day... but I didn't even have the urge to have a Diet Coke (more of a weakness for me than coffee) at all in the past two days.
Cool!
I'm finding that hot tea satifies me in the morning just as well as coffee did, and that with the variety of tea flavors available for ice tea, I'm not missing the soda at all.
I've also noticed that I feel far less bloated than I usually do, which is most likely attributeable to my extra water consumption, and of course, the reduction of caffeine in my diet and lack of carbonation... whatever the explanation, I'll take it- feels great :)
Making out my shopping list and rummaging through the cupboards today in preparation of beginning the 14 day plan detailed in The Ultimate Tea Diet book.
I'm still on and off, and especially at the end of the day, feeling less than energetic (a bad side-effect of hypothyroid.) Hoping the 14 day plan and continuing to progress with my walking plan will help to improve that over the next few weeks.
Thanks for sticking with my this far! I really appreciate my Gather friends and all your support!
And WOW! How cool that Dr. Tea is joining us for the Tea Diet Challenge. What a nice surprise and treat it was to receive comments and offers of support. If I wasn't already convinced this was the way for me to go, I'm doubly now! How wonderful of you to be so giving of your time and support on Gather, Dr. Tea - Thank you!
What's working or not working for you so far TEA-mmates?

This would be a way to wean myself off of it and make my way to a healthier diet.

Brava for your strength! I've been off soft drinks for over seven years and I've never looked back. Not only do you FEEL better, you will see weight loss, certainly. I also felt a lot less bloated not having had Diet Coke, and eliminating these toxic beverages allowed room for cleaner drinks and it cleansed my palate.
I also gave up coffee for a year and a half to devote myself to tea drinking. I'm back on coffee, but I now balance tea drinking with coffee so as to not be so dependent on any one beverage. The most important beverage to me is water (plain or slightly flavored). It fills me up and quenches the thirst.
Cheers, Felicia
Sophie, you won't regret it, it's a great book. I'll be here to support you too if you decide to take the the challenge :)
Jennifer, Jan, and Kimberly - tea is an awesome substitute, and I never expected that. But with so many flavors and varieties to make ice tea from, you'll easily find a substitute or two, or three, that help you cut the diet soda out.
Another thing I thought of, is if I really, really have the urge for carbonation down the road, that I'd maybe try a flavored sparkling water, or add some club soda to a glass of ice tea for a little treat :)
Thanks Felicia, for sharing your success story! Brava to you too!!
Hugs,
Barb
I just popped in here to say hi, and to encourage you to keep up the good work.

Beverly, that's a challenge for me, too. My daughter is open to trying tea, but the boys (hubby and my little two) that's a no-go. I decided my health is just going to have to take the front burner though, and I will be preparing seperate meals for awhile... hoping to eventually meet in the middle somewhere :)
Vickey, that's the way I like it, too. Living in the south can be a challenge sometimes, though, as there's lots of sweet tea everywhere!
Hugs,
Barb
