I realize that lately, we've all had our fare share of Gather glitches, but this is a new one for me.
Some of you have seen comments from me that say things like "My comments won't show up", after seeing 4 or 5 of basically the same thing. What happens is, I leave a comment, usually a long, detailed, thought out comment, I hit submit and, BOOM, its all gone. Does not post at all. Does not show that I left a comment in the poster's comment #'s. I will refresh the page, still not there. I leave the page and go back, still not there. So I'll leave another comment, trying to say the same thing I said in the one that just went POOF. Then I'll hit submit and BOOM, its gone again. I will go through this 3-4 times, sometimes several times per day, and finally when I leave the comment saying "My comments won't post", they magically ALL appear.
Today this happened on my friend, Cynthia J's post about her pepper plants. I left a long comment, hit submit,and it was gone. After about 5 minutes of refreshing the page, and leaving and coming back, all of it not working, I decided to check MY Comments link. Well I did, and guess what? The last 10 or so comments I left are NOT THERE.
This is a new glitch for me. Maybe they will show up later in the day, maybe not. It does make me wonder though, for those saying that they are no longer getting comments like they were before, if this is not more widespread then just my issue. Perhaps you ARE getting comments, and they are just not showing up?
I may leave a question about this for Kevin, but... I am not sure. Seems like an aweful lot of effort to go through when Gather does not care if we leave comments or not. But I have a little time today so maybe, that is of course IF my comments post on Kevin's articles, which remains to be seen.
Anyone else having this issue, repeatedly, over the past month?

I haven't had this problem, but I can see how annoying it would be. How are you supposed to know if they show up again or not? I hope you find an answer, but I can see why you're not too concerned, since we're getting so little points for comments!
My only real concern Alicia, is that my friends may not know I was there and read their post and gave it thought and all that good stuff. That bothers me to no end.
I've had that happen to me a few times, then later my comments would appear magically. They must fix this problem.
Yes, this has been happening to me quite often too. When I leave a lengthy comment, I copy if first just in case it doesn't show up! Then, I can just paste it again and try again, etc.
I've taken to doing that, too...
I also have been having similiar problem with my own postings. That one frustrates me most. I'll write an article at doesn't show up! CRAZY!
Oh gosh! Now I already do that (copy and paste) with my articles, because I too will try to post them and they will just be GONE from my editor when I hit submit - I get a message that says "The body of this post cannot be blank" over and over and over. Ugh this is insane!
I have times when they don't show up, and it's frustrating. Sometimes, refreshing makes them appear, but sometimes not. Usually, I close out that tab, and go back to my Gather home page and then go back in, and the comment is there. But not always. It seems to be working fine the last couple of days, though.
Its frustrating Julie! I would hate to think that my friends may not see my comments and think that I am not visiting their sites! Hence I am spending so much time on each article, leaving 3-4 comments trying to get them to post, that I am missing out on other articles :-( PITA!

They did that for me for a while but now take like 15-20 minutes!

you'd think that they'd fix some of this stuff... like for example the ha! we ate your entire article glitch... but no, we all have learned to copy and paste or use Word... now we're supposed to do it for comments too? Crazy - but what is REALLY crazy is that we do it.
I agree, and Flit, its insane! I left a comment on the help post and it did show up so I hope I have an answer soon!
I just saw that Pamela. How frustrating. Mine some times do that, but I just have to go out of the post and back in and then it's there. I would definitely ask Kevin for some advice. The only thing I might suggest is to clean your cache (aka, cookies, temp. files). Good luck. I hope it gets fixed, whatever it is.
Hi Cynthia, sorry for the repeated comments on your article lol. I clean my cache each morning, which is why this is so strange to me! I have a program that cleans it out before I even begin on Gather.com, and it happens right away! I dont undersatnd it at all lol!
It's been happening to me, too. I probably have double comments on a lot of posts. When I have the time, I wait and come back, but that's certainly a sorry option.
Sure is Elizabeth! I would suggest that Gather create a ghost copy of their servers, and do the upgrades there first, give them a few weeks to see what the glitches are, and FIX them before implementing any new upgrades that piss us all off.
I was having this problem last week but somehow it seemed to correct itself.
I have been waiting for that to happen for me Kat. Generally the glitches are around for a week or so and then clear up so I wait, patiently, but this one just won't go away lol!
Have you cleared the cache and rebooted your computer? Sometimes certain temp files and cookies make Gather seem more glitchie than it really is. Why, I don't know.
Yup, every day I do this. I clear the cache before I even sign on each morning. And it usually happens first thing when I sign on. I always do that when I experience a glitch because I've found that to be true too Kat. I have a program that runs that cleans the cache, cookies and history from my computer completely each time I reboot. So I am stumpped! I left a message for Kevin and he promised to get back to me :-) I will let you know what he explained when I get it!
what browser are you useing?
This time its Google Chrome. Firefox refuses to disply gather.com anymore. It crashes every time and all the work arounds for it that I've gotten here and from Kevin have not worked, nor has sending in crash reports. I loved using FF too. Such a shame. I refuse to use IE.... any other suggestions for browsers?

My comments seem to disappear but they always reappear when I refresh the page. Isn't gather great? LOL

I haven't been able to post photos using FF for at least a month or more. It shuts me down every time i try it and since I hate IE, i have pretty much stopped posting photos.
Seems there is always something. It doesn make you wonder why we all stay here especially since we aren't geting many points any more for all of our patience.
the only problem is I suppose to get notices when you and speacial friend post I dont get them till hour and hour after,, as an example you posted this at 10:41 this morning I still havent got notice and it is 5 pm

i have not had this problem, but i have the problem with not getting notices that someone comments, i never know if someone comments until it comes through days later, or if i get smart and check the post it self
I have had it where my comment didn't post, but I usually copy them if they are long, just in case, I did that the other day, no comment, so went out came back and pasted it, and took the time and date off, etc. and hit submit, and low and behold two came up, I don't know who's post it was on, but I left a third one and said now there are two, I only use firefox, and so far so good, but I do save everything to draft before submitting because often things disappear when you push submit. I am even saving to draft when I have the groups on there, because I hate to have to go through them all again, good luck Pam, sorry you are having trouble, probably do another upgrade soon, and make it all "better", lol. Also getting notices of comments hit and miss, got one that was done first, just awhile ago, while had others staggered all over the time frame, don't understand that on either.
Yes, yes.....this happens to me EVERY single day, here on Gather.....it is so maddening and frustrating.....I don't even bother contacting Kevin, as I contacted him numerous times about not being able to view videos anymore on my desktop......however, if I take the time/trouble to get the laptop out and all hooked up, then I AM able to view the videos, but truthfully, I much prefer my old desktop! I guess, if push goes to shove, I'll have to start having my laptop out/using it more just because of that....arghhhh!

This is why I only post a comment once.. I think it will appear eventually. But I hate seeing myself repeated because of a glitch and then feel like an idiot for doing it.
