1024 x 700 = 728,000 / 187 = 3893

I put pictures on cd's all the time but do not know how many they hold, but it also depends on how big the pictures are the bigger the less they hold.

1 MB = 1024 KB

Therefore:

1024KB * 700 = 716,800 KB available on a CD (approx.)

716,800 KB / 187 KB = 3,833 image files.

HOWEVER, the actual number of files you can write to the CD will likely be less than the amount listed above. The final amount will depend upon the application used to write the files and your operating system.

Usually more than you would like! Be sure to put them all in one folder, and burn them all at once. A DVD is about 4X more than a CD. I'm starting to use those Memory Flash Sticks. 4GB for $10.

Don't forget about lead-in space reserved for system info which as Kevin points out, is dependant upon what OS and CD writer you are using.

It's always possible you could simply upload each photo to www.photobucket.com and provide others with a link to the collection.

Kevin is right, all the extra crap that goes along with saving and editing the photo will also be stored. I usually can fit several hundred reasonably large photos over 500K, so you should fit more.

Ian is probably closer to how many you can actually fit. There is a "boot allocation sector" on the disk that keeps track of where the files are, and that takes up some space on the disk. I forget how much it uses, though. (It's been a long time since I was a "guru". :)
