When we lived in El Centro, CA while in the Navy, I was picking up Tonka toys and putting them in the sand box so I could mow. There were 2 black widow spiders in the sand box! The boys, just toddlers, new how to identify and avoid them.
no surprise to me, we have them here in Nebraska........ I just squash 'em and carry on, they kind of like hanging around in my raspberry and blackberry vines.........
I buy fruit and veggies from a local farmer's market in the summer - I've found many spiders, bugs, etc in them... the article is right though - it's better to find a live one than a dead one - no pesticides is a GOOD thing!
It would have freaked me out just because I am so freaked out by all spiders...alive!!! But I have a wall in my house filled with framed spiders and a spiders web!!! =0)
oh wow .I remember when i was in the 6th grade a mother brought a jar to school with a black widow in out, it was in bananas she bought at the stor,e never could figure out,why a black widow was in a bunch of bananas.
I think I would have been extremely curious and extremely horrified at the same time. But I think I would have just grabbed my shoe and flattened the thing.
