Catholic bishops will fight Obama on abortion

The nation's Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights, saying the church and religious freedom could be under attack in the new presidential administration.

In an impassioned discussion on Catholics in public life, several bishops said they would accept no compromise on abortion policy. Many condemned Catholics who had argued it was morally acceptable to back President-elect Obama because he pledged to reduce abortion rates.

we have seperation of church and state for a reason. I don't see what they think they can accomplish. Besides making us listen to them preach and possibly comdem us Catholics by denying us church servies

I am still looking for the words seperation, church and state in the 1st ammendment and cannot find them. Where are they?
I've already seen it happening where i live in protests on their signs outside....I have 4 Catholic churches within 1/4 of a mile from my house...in fact I am surrounded by Catholics....hahaha............

We all fuss and complain about things that are happening. But there is nothing we can do to change it. The only thing we can do is draw ourselves closer to God and put our worries in his hands.

It is always wrong when one group wants to shove their beliefs and morals down the throat of the general public.

If you are against abortion, you should not have one.

I hate when people willfully pretend to be dumb.
Freedom of religion means that each individual has the same, identical right to practice their own faith without the government forcing the beliefs of one group on the other. Separation of Church and State means, and you know this but want to feign ignorance, that religion is to be used to determine laws, because doing so forces one religious set of beliefs on another group. When one powerful Church attempts to impose its will on others through forcing legislation, that is a violation of the First Ammendment because it is interfering with MY freedom of religion.

Maybe if the Catholic Church REALLY cares about reducing abortions, they should spend less money on legal fees trying to ban the practice and more money providing day care and help for working mothers, help for women in crisis, and offering more support to young women with limited options.

A Church that opposes contraception is just asking for a great need for abortions.

The best way to stop abortions is to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Prevention is much better than cure in all sorts of areas of life.

I don't follow your inference Mark. The 'separation of church and state' is a concept or principal...a legal doctrine.

I'm not Catholic, but the only way Obama can have any influence over Roe v. Wade is by appointing a Supreme Court Judge that vows to overturn Roe v. Wade if given the opportunity.
Congress sets the budget, so focus on your Reps and Senators if you want to cut money for abortion services.

Yeah, every group wants a piece of Obama. We have an economy to fix. When we are done with that, you can file your grievances.

Bishops, take a seat!!! There many ahead of you.

Obama is supposed to be a Constitutional Lawyer, but fails to understand that part of the Constitution, as well as other parts. SO he has promissed to overthrow the Roe vs. Wade discission. It again shows his training in Laws under Communism as we see it today.
Get used to it people, this is what was voted in office.
