I know Summer has arrived when the Barn Swallows return and set up housekeeping above my front door! This year they had to evict a couple of other birds who had taken over their nest. I can't be sure but I believe this is the female, she sits on the Christmas lights and peeks around the frame of the porch! As you can see by the thermometer it was 81 degrees at 10:00 am last Monday morning! Our weather has been really hot already, today is suppose to be cooler, its 7:30 am and 70 degrees.
I have watched these Barn Swallows chase Roadrunners, Orioles, and what I call Mourning Doves all over my yard, they are a joy to watch! They catch their food on the fly! And are very aerodynamic, shaped like a V when in flight and very curious. They will follow us around the yard all summer long. They swoop in and out of our garage when we work in there with all the doors open. They even help the Hummingbirds fend off the Orioles from their feeders.

Interesting birds. I saw some in their nests recently when we visited a fort here in town.

These are good photos. I love watching birds in our yard. A bird just moved into the OSU birdhouse my daughter made that we hung out back. We also are getting ready to put out hummingbird feeders near our clematis in hopes to draw some hummingbirds too!

Aren't they fun? They're such skillful and graceful flyers, and unlike the purple martin, they have those unusual tails. They nest in my storage building and have for years. A bit messy but I don't mind.
Yeah, John they are messy, but like you I don't mind! I hope to get some shots of the little ones later on!
