I just want to go over what I accomplished in my writing world. On Tuesday night I had my writing habit class at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. One suggestion that hit home was not write before I checked my email. It was a simple suggestion, but I as soon as my alarm went off I thought. "I get to work on my novel this morning!" It was a state of "get to" instead of "have to" that I have started to go into lately. First I did my mad writing for 15 minutes, I try and do that at least a few mornings a week. I set the timer for 15 minutes and go at it. Then I set the timer again for another 30 minutes and got about 2-3 pages of my novel done. After my day job was over I worked on a book review I'd been tying up loose ends on. That was about another hour or so of writing. I should be posting that sometime tomorrow. I got another idea for an article on bookstores, and jotted down a few notes in a draft for later.
So that puts me at a total of at least 2 hours -- maybe more because I probably lost track of time at some point. I also sold a copy of my poetry book today. Yay!
Hopefully tomorrow will turn out just as well. I'm going to try and head out to the Loft and see about signing up for the student reading. It's been a while since I've done one of those. I only get five minutes, I believe, but I should be able to read the first 3 pages of my novel. Who knows, maybe it will open a few doors.
