"Grandma, can you hear me?"
I hear you every day. I hear you reminding me to be a lady and to work hard. I hear you asking me how my day was and feel you hugging me whether it was good or bad.
"Grandma, can you hear me?"
I hear you at night when I try to go to sleep, but something is bothering me. I hear you telling me that it will still be there in the morning and to get some rest. I see you in my dreams, laughing and telling me that I am very important to you.
"Grandma, can you hear me?"
I hear you sometimes coughing from all those years of cigarettes and now the cancer. I see the look you had in your eyes the day you wanted me to believe I would be o-kay without you.
"Grandma, can you hear me?"
I want to tell you that I am o-kay, but I miss you. I have missed you every day since the 6th grade. If I try really hard, sometimes I still hear you and I know that what you are saying is that you love me.
"Grandma, can you hear me?"
I love you too !!
My grandmother died when I was in the 6th grade which is now almost 20 years ago, but I miss as much or more than I did then. I was her only grandaughter and my mom was her only child. We were lucky because she lived with us during those last few months of her life, but that didn't make it any easier to see her go.

She passed almost thirty years ago.

That was beautiful. Grandparents can impact our lives in a way that nobody else can. We dont realize it until we are older. I am sure she was a wonderful woman.
There's Maw-Maw (http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977070010&nav=MyGather) and Granny (http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977069989&nav=MyGather). I sometimes also talk to my maternal great-grandmother, who died when I was in 6th grade. She was a little Sicilian woman who glided around in her black dresses as though she was on rolers. She kept a small neighborhood grocery for many years, an occupation taken up by her daughter, Maw-Maw.
My heart goes out to you, Karen. We were so blessed to have time with our grandmothers - I hold on to that reminder.

I lost my grandma 2 years ago. She always called me her 5th daughter. Even though she had 11 other grandkids, I was her first and we just had a bond like the others didn't. I love her and grandpa to this day and miss them more each day. But I know they are together and we'll all be together again. :)
i know that Grandma hears you every day...
God Bless always...
((((Big hugs))))
