Thank You Gather For The Saw~~~A Huge Photo Story!

March 04, 2008 01:15 AM EST

I had a really great day today! I first came out the front of my house to see a small flood in my yard.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Stepping over all the puddles, I made it to my van.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Then, It happened, I got a soaker! It wasn't too bad so I carried on.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
and while backing out of my driveway, I had to cross even more giant puddles and small rivers.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It seems like today was Mother Nature's day for clearing out the snow to make room for more snow! (This is Michigan we're talking about for God's sake! LOL)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Some of this standing water is about 6" deep!~
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Since I don't live too far from the airport and it was almost 50 degrees out I went for a drive with my brother.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I was able to catch a few nice shots of planes landing when I stopped at a closed gas station for a few minutes!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Then I saw some wood and that made a good photo too!~
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
So after visiting with my brother Curt (Monkshood to all you Gather people who know him here) and going thrift shopping for a few I thought I would stop by Home Depot to see what I could see!

I have watched a few shows lately about people cutting rocks with saws and having them turn out awesome1 I got the bug in me and went to the tile saws. I found a Husky saw for $198.00! The associate asked if I had a HD charge? I of coarse didn't and he offered that if I got a charge, they would give me $25.00 off my first buy and I could spin this wheel for more savings. I spun and got another 10% off! So After turning in my HD gift cards from Gather, my $25.00 and my 10% I only paid about $30.00 for the saw!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is a top view of my new saw.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The front where the switch is and the tank inside that holds the water for the blade.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
So I overfilled the tank at first and flooded my kitchen table and rug! Then I turned it on without the blade being covered by the shroud and had my own spring bath! I got covered in water from the blade! It was so funny that we all laughed until we cried!~
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Then I got a piece of tile and tried it out!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I couldn't believe how fast the saw cut the tile! It took less than a minute to have a clean cut thru and thru!~
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is the laser on the cover of the blade! (A NEW TOY!~)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is a shot of the diamond tipped blade!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
So I got this idea to go outside and find a rock I could cut. I thought, "if it would cut some tile why not a rock?"
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I cut right through it like it was nothing! What a thrill!~
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is the end of the rock where I made the cut.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This i the piece I cut.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And another look at the piece I cut.

So, Thank you Gather for the awesome rock cutter I was able to get because of your fine site!

Now I'm off to comment, post, and gather more Gather points to save for my next big purchase!

God bless and I hope I kept you entertained for a minute or two!~

Wow! You have more melt off than we have further north of you (I live in Clare County, MI). We still have a couple feet of snow in our yard. Hubby had to shovel the drive yesterday because someone got stuck in it when he hit the sides. I hate this part of winter, with the sudden melts and the huge puddles.

I'm glad you got your new toy! Have lots of fun with it.

Were neighbors im in Brownstown. I know all to well about the lovely yard flooding. We pulled out the pool pump and pumped water most of the day to the drain, but there was still plenty more. Now the lovely snow AGAIN! Oh how we love the weather in Michigan. If you dont like the weather here, give it 5 mins it will change.

Great photo essay. I am a rockhound so I especially liked you cutting that rock. Thanks for sharing it.

Since the link wouldn't give me this article I decided to go straight to your name and read it. Thanks, Mark.

Boys and their Toys, I gave my husband HD cards that I had earned on gather for Fathers Day last year. He had a blast shopping. he bought one of those fancy ladders that everyone seems to have now. I was tickled that I actually gave him something he had fun with, A trip to Home Depot.

I enjoyed your photo essay and it has inspired me to save my points for hubby again.

Cool, mind if I come over with some of my rocks that need cutting? I would go get one of those cutters myself but I would probably cut off my hand instead.

Oh, and the way your yard looks. Mine looked like that this past weekend too, but that was because a pipe burst.

I would probably saw my arm off playing with that. I like to collect rocks and I would have way too much fun sawing them into bits just to see what was inside of them LOL
power tools are not good for me. I can barely use my drimmel without incident haha

I find cool rocks all the time....while out looking for Gold or just doing some panning. I see these tile saws almost given away in a lot of pawn shops. I never even thought about cutting rock with one!!! Egad man.... if my body will allow it, and my pocket book, you just gave me some great ideas for making some landscape changes!!

By the way... your email... the link said I didn't have permission, so I hadda find ya the hard way...going to my homepage. ha. cool saw, buddy.

Hey Mark

What great photos!! You have given me inspiration to use my camera more and maybe give a small photo essay of my own. It looks like you have had a lot of snow. We are just about to start our winter and have had a small frost already. Time to get the winter wood in. It's no use me commenting on the saw, i can barely hold a hammer. LOL. I hope you post some photos of cut-stone-artwork soon.

The beginning of a "ROCK HOUND" career! Your next step is to find out where you can go dig up some GEODES to slice open. Those are really beautiful. You will need a polisher now to shine your pieces up.
PS: Where there are rocks... there are sometimes rattlesnakes hiding underneath them.
Have fun with your new toy!

LOL Thanks Mark for the morning chuckle, shock and awe! I feel ya on the MI weather! It is beautiful watching the snow, but the mess it leaves behind has had me on edge all the way around. Coming from CA/AZ this snow/sleet/rain and water thingy; keeps me on my toes and shovel to say the least.

Your essay was awesome. I luvvvvvvvvvv rocks and Home Depot so your essay was right up my alley. I love to rock hunt and always wonder what a rock would look like inside and out. As for Home Depot; I could live in that store and Lowes! I've always got some form of artistic light bulb flashing in my head or when I wasn't in an apt., some form of home to-do- list going! Thanks Pal 10!

That's great! I have only been her 2 weeks so I have yet to earn enough for anything. I about halfway to the $25 card I think. Great photo essay. Love the rock cutting part. Now you'll end up with all these chunks of rocks lying all over the house.

Cool, Mark!! That's kind of strange because I used MY Gather HD cards to get a new Dremel so that I could carve little garden signs out of rocks that I gave away for Christmas! So we got similar things with our cards for working on similar things! Funny, huh?

:o)

Great photo essay Mark and I'm so glad that you were able to pay so little for it with your discounts and gift cards. We are saving for a deep freezer and one more gift card should do us. Can't wait to get it. It's fun to save for a big item and finally acquire it this way - working toward a goal. Your photo essay was great and cutting through that rock was neat. Glad you are having fun with your new toy. Just be safe with it!!!

Mark, that was a fun photo story! Too bad you didn't get a photo of all the water everywhere! You & I have the same mind set when it comes to spending points. I want something tangible that will last & last. You sure got a good deal on that saw! I want a birding scope. Wonder if I could save for that?

Very interesting story. Ordinary extraordinariness...
I like craft. Also I used to work as tile layer and cut marble and granite tiles
We were beautified an University building. It feels pleasant to cut stone like a piece of butter.
