The boxes have been trickling in and the delivery guys failed to show up as scheduled with the furniture on Monday, but I thought I would give you a peek into my new home.....
(For those that don't know, I won a contest here on Gather...you can see it here)
I know that it was supposed to be for my living room and the majority went for that but my first purchase was something that I really wanted and have been dreaming about for quite a while. I wanted a nice fluffy and welcoming bed. I envisioned something that made a statement with the extra decorative pillows and the whole nine yards.
What I had.....well, it was nowhere near that. I had a hand me down comforter that was green on one side and some funky fake quilt looking thing on the other. There were no shams, no frilly pillows, nothing inviting at all. It was functional, but wasn't me.
I tried my best to make it look better with my great grandmother's quilts, but as you can see, it was feeble at best.
So on to the Downsizing Contest and my dream purchase....
Crate and Barrel has lovely beddings and linens. Many were a little modern for my taste, but I narrowed it down to three. I thought that I would be diplomatic and give my dear BF a choice between these.....
I know, I should have known what he would choose, since two were slightly girly, but I went for it.
He, of course, chose the red. So now we have brand new bedding thanks to Gather, CollinsNonfiction and you! I think that it is much improved and even matches the stars that I already had on the wall. Now if I could just get people to stop making a face when they ask me to describe it and I tell them it is deep red velvet! I swear, they picture a brothel or something! LOL...
I hope that you like it:) It isn't quite the fluffy bed that I had in mind, but it does make quite a statement!

Don't worry about what other people are picturing in their heads, they don't live there, you do. Besides if it's that important for them to know what your home looks like, charge 'em admission. :~D
Mary, I wanted the york one too, but actually, I am really happy with the outcome.
I would have went for your first choice if it was me buying. I own a few crate and barrel sheet & comforter ensambles and that one would go well with my furnature. However, velvet must be really cozy this time of year and it's probably wonderful to curl up in.
so long as your happy with it thats what counts
sweet dreams!
I do like it, because the sky is the limit accent pillow wise and really, it goes with everything else in the room so well. I did not want to sew more curtains and while you can't see them, they are a dark denim blue, so they look great with it.
It is so warm and thick. We actually had to go to the laundromat to wash it because it was so big and heavy that it was making my washer make some really funny noises. They were scary noises!
The lawn chairs were banished and replaced with a leather couch and chair. The refrigerator and plastic patio table have been put outside and in their place are some nice delicate end tables. We are waiting for a media console and coffee table. (They were supposed to be here on Monday, but never came....argh!)
You are so lucky!
I am ecstatic for you. One of the funnest things is decorating, and especially starting from scratch. Gosh what fun! Fun! Fun!
Congratulations Glitters
I think that the solid was a good choice, I can always add some frilly stuff in a floral pattern if the need arises. I was afraid of the light colors because....well, I spend a lot of time there and have been know to spill a drink or two. LOL.
I am enjoying getting things to coordinate with it. The dark jewel tone is a lot more soothing to me than I thought that it would be.
The stars were so easy to do. I had some in my old house but they didn't make it in the move. I had been eying them in catalogs, but they are so expensive. I was thrilled to find them on clearance since they were Christmasy and it only took a coat of two or paint that I chose. I just used the cheap acrylics from Michael's and added a dark wash to age them.
