Poem- The Gift of Family

Family has always been important to me. Over the years I have discovered that family was more than a blood relationship. My family consists of longtime, and new friends, coworkers, relatives, and now Gather. So this is for all of my family, no matter where they are.

The Gift of my Family

I look around too often and see

estranged families all around me.

I know I’m missing parts of my own

and there are days I think, “Nobody is home!”

But I truly Thank God for my family tree

Each and every branch is so very important to me.

I would not be a child of God above

without their kindness, hope, and love.

God gave them to be a part of me

with all the hope, faith and flaws you see.

Each can contribute to the others growth and care

with a word, a look, or a needed hug to spare.

My family has been a blessing from above

and has helped me to remember that God is Love.

So now I come to you, Lord, to pray

that my family will let you light their way.

and that you keep them safe in your love

until we are all reunited in Heaven above!

I pray you help them know one more thing,

family’s not just blood, but a love, trust, faith, and friendship ring.
