Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite
amazing.... looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.
His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing. If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will
see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other
horse is, so he can follow.
As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind
horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.
When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the
blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.
Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges.
He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little
ringing of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....
Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.
And remember... be kinder than necessary - everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly....
Leave the rest to God.

So true Mark, no one ever really knows another person's story.
I've known a few blind and partially blind horses... it's amazing how well they can get along, especially with their horsey-friends :)
I had to stand up and Thank the lord for a minute that I am able to read these wonderful words. This article is saying so much. If a animal can care and protect another then why can't we do a better job of loving and caring for each other. We need to stop falling down on the job of helping our fellow man and woman. It doesn't take anything but a kind word sometimes to help someone make it through the day. A smile across a street or a bus can give comfort to a lonely person struggling with their self worth.
and Natalie .... loved your turkey story, as well .....
good to see you up in around.
glad everything turned out ok Mark, glad your better

Growing up around horses, I knew several that were blind. No one ever thought they were "less" just because they happened to be blind.
We are all the walking broken in one way or the other, kindness and helping each other is what we should be doing.
Safe Journeys,take care of yourself.
And any day that I felt like it, I could jump on him bareback and he would pick right up in a canter. Can you imagine running into the darkness, trusting someone of another species to keep you safe? I was always amazed and touched. He would never go over a trot with anyone else on him.
I think you are right in stating how we look after those of us who can't for themselves.
Thanks for sharing and taking the time to write and post it here for us to better understand life as it is.

I love the part about 'everyone is put here for a reason.' Yes, my child is coming and all, but it all happened for a reason. I know it will make our love stronger as well which is a good thing. I prayed to God to 'have me get pregnant when the time was right'. And a month later, I was pregnant and praying back to God, "Why God? Why? Financially, how on Earth will we do this?" I just kept crying and crying, worrying about the joy in me, when everyone calls a child a blessing. I've finally accepted that I'm pregnant and have adjusted, but I still worry and nothing will stop worrying. I probably need to pray more often about this financial thing. I just don't know. I'm doing the best I can to find a job and bosses consider me socially odd or I just don't respond the way they want me to. Keep me in your prayers and I love how you say things happen for a reason..cuz they truly do. I think the child in me is making me a stronger and better person, though, and that's always a good thing. :)
