I think Michigan is amazing and is the only state that I would live in! Where else can you have four seasons, five lakes around the sides of your state, two land masses (bi-peninsular) connected by a five mile bridge, (the 3rd longest) and a stone that is made of fossils named after a town? (Petoskey)
And the beauty that is everywhere is astounding! We have the longest freshwater shoreline in the world! So whether you are in the "Mitten" or up by the "Yoopers" you'll find we are all friendly people!

Thanks for the comment demongirl! (your posts are awesome!)
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I have a great appreciation for Michigan as well. I've seen it at it's best and worst. When I got married the first time, many years ago, we drove through Michigan, coming East from New England. As it turned out, we ended up staying overnight in a seedy little motel in Detroit. Not the best timing. It was during the Democratic Convetntion in Chicago in 1968 when they had the riots (we came back trhough Chicago) and they were rioting in Detroit, too.
I have much more peaceful recollections of playing at the North Country Folk Festival in Itonwood, Michigan on the upper penninsula in the 80's. It' spectacular country up there! I also did a concert in a small town 50 miles or so north of Detroit in the 80's and really enjoyed the whole trip.
When we fly out to Wisconsin, we much prefer flying through Detroit. O'Hare in Chicago is a nightmare.
And finally, every fall for many years, my parents, who lived in southern Wisconsin, rove along the shores of Lake Superior to enjoy the fall colors.
You can see, I have many fond remembrances of Michigan.. and had some good friends there.
(BTW Demongirl the festival is like 15 minutes from me! )
A Yooper is someone that lives in the upper part of our state.
Yes, record catches of fish have been caught through out our state! (We are also called the land of many lakes!) We have an abundance of deer for all of the hunters and more Mom & Pop shops to buy your trinkets from than you can shake a stick at! A perfect vacation place to relax and unwind!
Thanks for all your wonderful comments!
And for Carol Lloyd, do you realize that all of Michigan's waste products flows down stream to you? I would much rather live in Michigan! lol
I love Michigan
I just returned form Florida, and while it was beautiful, I have no idea how you guys survive the heat and humidity!! LOL I thought I might melt into a giant puddle!
We are close to Lake MI, and the humidity gets a bit bad once in a while, but i can say now that maybe what i thought was "bad" humidity really is nothing at all compared to Florida and Georgia!
Go IRISH.... ;)
I love the photo!
Don't forget about the fall season with it's blue sky October days and brillant leaf colors.
But it CAN get humid here. We've been blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather this summer. Right Mark?
Impressive posting! I leave behind a smiling apple to keep you feeling that wonderful place of Michigan!
(;
The bridge thing is cool ... the fossils, well!
( I'm a collector) I would start with the a bookstore on Red Arrow Highway and work my way upstate, It's a beautiful place!
