Wow. I liked this movie. I really did. That is...until they did the unthinkable....
They remade Thriller.
Anyway, This Is It is Michael Jackson's final outing as the King of Pop, and this film is comprised of footage from the rehearsals for a concert that never happened, as Michael passed tragically this past June.
Let me start off by saying that I went into this film with the wrong idea. I had been told that it was just as much a documentary about Michael, and the way he acted around other people, as it is a concert movie, with him performing his best songs.
This is not the case.
This is very much a concert movie, and there is very little else. Sure, you get to talk to the dancers, and you get to see how they made the cruddy new Thriller video, but there's not much else.
Now, I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but two and a half hours of watching that without actually being there just got boring, and I almost fell asleep several times. The only thing that kept me awake was my hatred for the new Thriller remix and video. They were that bad. I know that I keep harping on that, but it was really bad...
I think that I would have been much happier, had I just waited for the DVD, which is going to include five hours of footage overall, and then have it playing in the background while I clean or something. I honestly think that I would have liked it much more that way...
Not a bad film, and it really shows you the kind of person that Michael is, but it's just not worth the ticket price to me. Especially with the crappy editing.
I'm serious, whoever they paid to edit this together is going to make millions, and while I'm not exactly a professional, I full heartedly feel that I could have done a better job.
Unless you're a Michael Jackson fanatic, and you want to see it on the big screen, I'd wait for the DVD. You'll get a lot more out of it that way...

BTW, yours is the only review I've seen that wasn't extremely positive!
