Well, I finally saw this again. The first time that I saw this, I was only five or six, which meant that my underdeveloped brain was unable to capture the pure awesomeness that was the Iron Giant.
An enormous robot has come from deepest space, crash landed on Earth, and followed eleven year old Hogarth Hughes home.
Now, young Hogarth has one big friend and an even bigger problem: How do you keep a secret that's 50 feet tall? Especially when a paranoid government agent is on the "alien invader's" trail, bringing with him the full might of the U.S. military to destroy the giant. It all adds up to a rousing adventure that's part magic... and all heart.
This truly is the greatest example of an animated film done right. No lame flatulence jokes, no annoying characters, and more compelling ones.
While watching this, I forgot from time to time, that this was an animated film, I forgot that these were nothing more than moving drawings, because the characters and the story were so darn good.
I really did wish that I could have remembered seeing this in the theaters, because it was so well animated, with the perfect combination of 2D and CGI. This was one that didn't fair too well in theaters, but a lot of people are discovering this on DVD, which is a good thing.
I really suggest catching this as soon as you can.
SPECIAL FEATURES
8 pretty cool additional scenes.
A couple of feature length commentaries with different people who worked on the film.
"THE VOICE OF THE GIANT" with Vin Diesel.
So what are you waiting for? Go rent this masterpiece!
