Life As We Knew It is a young adult book by Susan Beth Pfeffer. It's the journal of a young girl who's world is turned upside when an asteroid hits the moon shifting it off it's orbit. You wouldn't think this would be such a big deal, but it affects everything. There are massive psunamis that wipe out most of the coasts. Because of increased gravitational pull volcanoes start erupting which covers just about everywhere with volcanic ash blocking out the sunlight. Temperatures get cooler everywhere. People everywhere are running out of food. This girl journals as all of this happens how she and her two brothers and mom survive this time.
This is quite an interesting book. I'm just as much of an end of the world fanatic (book wise anyway) as the next person and reading this from a journal perspective was interesting. It was hard to put the book down, so Ms. Pfeffer must have done something right. It's a good book for any to read, but it can be a bit depressing at times. It's enjoyable not just for young adults but for grown-ups as well.
The only criticism I would have to give would be in the ending. If you don't want to know how it ends, you might want to stop reading now. I'm just as much of a happy ending fan as the next person, but this one was almost too unrealistic. Things just HAPPEN to work out at EXACTLY the right time. It was a little too much, too fast for me. It was still worth reading though, and I do recommend that you check it out.

I like endings where the impossible saves the day, so I might like it.
Do you ever read the ending before you get to it? I used to not read the jacket. I wanted only complete surprises. Then I bought one too many books that were totally not what I wanted to read. Waste of $$ . ... Now I read the first page before I buy.
