I read an article today at OneNewsNow.com called Christian TV special being stifled that made me realize two things:
- Not only is our TV news biased,
- But our regular TV viewing is most likely being decided by the people who speak the loudest. In other words, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." That would explain how and why the sitcoms have become overloaded with gay characters when a mere 10% of the population is supposedly gay.
Remember the show Speechless: Silencing Christians that aired on INSP? I provided links so that everyone could watch it online if they didn't have INSP on their cable or dish provider.
Speechless: Silencing Christians was a 14-episode show, and now a one-hour special has been produced based on the series.
American Family Association has been buying prime-time slots on national TV to present that special to "provide factual, Christian-based information." But the pro-family group has been, in many cases, silenced, just as the program's title indicates.
"There's a real threat to our First Amendment and free-speech rights because Christians are being shut down and shut out and shut up by the very people who say they champion freedom of speech," asserts AFA president Tim Wildmon.
- WSXY in Columbus, OH refused to air the program.
- WSPA in Greenville, SC aired it, but ran an apology afterwards.
- WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI agreed to air the show on Monday, then bumped it to Wednesday, then proposed running it on Saturday, then cancelled it.
From the article mentioned above:
Wildmon sees outright irony in what is happening. "It's ironic that the very issue we're bringing up -- that Christians are being rendered speechless when they talk about this issue -- is actually happening to us when it comes to the program itself," he observes.
Why are stations responding that way? According to Wildmon, they are reacting to complaints from homosexual activists about airing Speechless. "[The stations are] just giving us the runaround," he says. "They've heard from a few of the homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered supporters out there -- and so they haven't heard massively from our folks yet."
But the AFA president predicts they will. He argues that the TV special simply tells the truth -- and he urges people to visit SilencingChristians.com, where segments of the show can be viewed. Wildmon also encourages people in cities where the show is scheduled to contact their local TV station and voice their support for airing it.
Is it any wonder that wholesome TV shows are not being aired, if Christians are not letting their voices be heard, but others are?
Is it any wonder that advertisers directing their ads towards one segment of the community and not others?
Here's another opportunity for us to speak out. Yes, we should pray. We should always pray. But as Grandma always said, "You need to put feet to those prayers."
How much effort does it take to write or call your local stations to find out if this program is airing? If it's not, find out why. If it is, be sure to voice your support.
We cannot continue to allow one-sided information to bombard us. How long will we continue to allow ourselves to be silenced?

What about gay Christians? Are they being silenced, too?
We're seeing that with the new administration already.
Come on, Marilyn. This is ridiculous.
"factual, Christian-based information" is that like an oxymoron?
Now if I can just get Sharon to write "get Time Warner to drop all those stupid Jesus channels" into the gay agenda, I'll stop complaining about the cost of cable television.
As for the censorship, we Christians deserve the same 1st Amendment rights as any other group or organization, but we are being denied those same rights. Like Marilyn said above - think about what group's rights could be taken away next - it could be YOURS. So speaking out now, helping Christians speak up now may well make it easier for YOUR group to keep ITS rights, too.
EM Jay - On my way. I would be particularly enthused to get rid of the white people who try to sing gospel in Lawrence Welk outfits and the pink haired woman with 43 sets of eyelashes who sits on a gold chair and her husband preaches. She talks about giving dolls to starving children and weeping while her mascara and stray lashes track down her face.
Message, messenger, HA!
Thanks Marilyn for not being afraid to put it out there....:)
everyone has there own opinion on everything. Where is the Freedom?
Not a good way to win over the pop culture crowd, Billy. I will never forgive you. I'm sure you made me miss "Wild, Wild West" more than once. That show taught life skills.
TV stations are businesses. They sell air space. They have the right to refuse to sell air space. They do it all the time. This is not illegal, immoral, or fattening. They consider their viewer demographic and determine what to run.
