How Truthful Should We Be?

I do think there are questions that shouldn't be asked, they just hurt others unintentionally.

Of course there are questions that should not be asked, but thats not the premise of the show. The whole point is to destroy people, and folks watch it for that very reason. I wouldn't watch it if it were the only program on every network.

I agree that there are questions that just should not be asked--because the truthful answers will only hurt people unnecessarily.

Ask anything you like, it's the answers that can be damaging. So if you are faced with really hurting someone, or not being blantently honest. Do the kindest thing. Some things should be kept to yourself.

This show is like watching a train wreck in progress. I couldn't imagine being a contestant on something like this--if your "truth" will destroy a loved one, keep it to yourself!

I think you'd have to be nuts to go on a show like that one.

There are definitely answers that should never be given. Just cause the questions are asked, doesn't mean they have to be answered ;-)

That show is going to destroy so many relationships. it is so sick.

I watched that show a couple of times and was totally appalled by it. It was horrifying. I could not believe that people would destroy their relationship with their spouse and parents all in the name of money. How awefull of them and the people airing such a horrid thing. This country is becoming totally sick if they think that is entertainment. I litterly felt sick after watching it.

Bottom line: All they need to do is fill about 2-3 more hours of TV time with unrealistic 'reality' shows and 'game' shows like this one and I can cancel my cable.

I've seen the show advertised and feel they same as the views already expressed. Those who participate will never be able to enjoy the money they've won. On the other hand, I wonder how much of it is staged. Either way, people who enjoy this kind of "entertainment" need therapy.

I think that it is one of the stupidest shows on tv. I can't believe the questions that some of these folks are asked and that they would answer them honestly in front of their loved ones on tv. To ask someone if they would cheat in front of their husband and then answer honestly that they have just to win money is just ridiculous. Just shows how desperate for cash some people are. It is upsetting to me that people would do that for money. I am sure this show has broken up a lot of marriages!

Sometimes it's not even the question per se but the way it is phrased, and presented that crosses the line.

That show ia all about ratings. The people that go on know what type of questions are going to be asked so they put themselves in that situation.

My personal opinion is that you shouldsalways be honest. I also live by don't ask a question that you may noit like the answer.

I've never watched the show but have heard how hurtful it can be. I'm with Chris, don't ask a question that you may not like the answer to.

Of course there are questions that should never be asked, and we don't always have to answer questions that are posed to us. My motto is, "we should always tell the truth, but we don't have to always be telling it".

I am more than willing to tell my husband anything he wants to know about myself and the life before him but details are not always necessary. if someone asked if I had been kissed better, I might have to say "yes." But the guy who kissed better was a human turd, pardon my language, and his technique was designed to inculcate him into your life and overtake it. My husband is not so much a kisser as a "hands-on" guy and I love his little tickles and soft pinches as well as the loving touches and caresses which "kisser" guy could never duplicate or want to - too personal. As I said, if he asked me, I would be honest but why would I begin a conversation with, "Although you may not be the best kisser I have ever encountered, you are..." He would probably cut off his listening at the first comma and never hear what makes him special to me. Why would anyone want to hurt, embarrass or shame someone they claim to love enough to marry in front of an audience for money? I think this is where the word "whore" came into the language for understandable usage.

I think if we were supposed to know what each other thinks all the time-we would have been made with telepathic powers! If this is a true program, and not a set-up, people are selling their very souls!

I think that everyone has the right to keep some parts of their lives personal and private.

I've never watched the show but I've seen things that point to the fact that they seem to want to embarass and cause hurt with their questions. I personally think many things are meant NOT to be shared in public.

We should be truthful or silent. And we should never air our dirty laundry in an open public forum regardless of format.

With that said, here's a little honesty:

I am voting McCain UNLESS Obama chooses Hillary as VP. Hillary was my candidate. I believe if Obama gets the white house, he will be asasinated. My candidate still wins.

Now, that's pretty crude but it's the truth of my feelings. Should I have said it or not?

Well... One thing's for certain... I'm willing to bet that we'll never hear any of the names of the "geniuses" who actually signed up to be on that program associated with winning the Nobel Prize for inventing any rocket ships or anything like that in the near (or far, for that matter) future...

I had a friend a long time ago that got pulled over by a policeman for speeding... Turned out his car wasn't registered, he didn't have a valid license and he had an open beer bottle between his legs... When the cop asked him why in the world he would be speeding when he all these other violations going on, my friend said:

"Just smart, I guess..."

DUH.

I try to be honest most of the time but sometimes those white lies slip out when I don't want to hurt someone. As for the cheating question someone asked above, if the answer is yes, your relationship already has some serious problems. I only tell white lies about things that are unimportant.

I'm with Donna on that show...I've seen the preview. Though if people choose to be on that show for money, then they pretty much are asking for the treatment and embarassing situations that they get in. It comes down to this: for what amount of money would you embarass yourself and your loved ones? My husband is pretty sensitive about privacy, and I really don't think they could offer me enough money for me to get on there and say something that would be potentially embarassing for him.

Lies are lies. And they always hurt. When you ask a question you should be prepared that you might not get the answer you want.

Don't lie, just tell them to myob. People do not need to be that snoopy, and I never watch that awful show. It's purpose is to hurt.

Hey you might have feelings for someone ....but that does not mean you will act on it.
The lie detector would detect on your feelings.
Why hurt someone just to hurt? Is you family,friends or relatives not worth anything???
This is what is bad in our world that money means more to people then their loved ones.

There definately should be questions not asked. Those are some tough questions they ask on there.

I think the show is ridiculous. I can't believe anyone would agree to go on it.

I've never seen the show, but I feel the same as Mary -- ridiculous. It sounds like it's hard to blame the show for the demise of some of the relationships though.

I have seen it , would not recomend going on it.

I am 100% truthful. I will be silent and not answer or change the subject before I will say something mean or hurt someone but I WILL NOT LIE to them !

I agree with not lying; however, if you don't have anything decent to say - shut up. To create yet another show dedicated to humiliating people just for the sake of ratings says a lot about the people on the show and the channel that airs it. Of course reality television is not "real", but the point is that there are trashy people out there that watch it. I, for one, prefer to rise above that and get a life of my own.

To be fair, it's much like appearing on Jerry Springer; the people who actually appear on these shows already know damn well what they're getting into, and know that the most embarrassing questions/answers are the ones that will be asked again. It's really just about seeing how much public humiliation you're willing to go through for money, if I understand it properly. With the economy the way it is, being the laughingstock of millions is still slightly better than turning to crime...

There certainly are questions that should not be asked. If they are asked, they should not be answered unless with another question such as "Why do you want to know?" or "What an incredibly insensitive question! I'm sure you don't expect an answer."

I haven't seen the show. From the responses above, it sounds like it's a crazy one.

Some people are a little too paranoid yeah. But whatever causes us to be depressed or holds us back should be brought out in us, i feel.

I tried watching that show the other night. I watched about 5 minutes of it. To me those people don't care who they hurt or they wouldn't of gone on the show. Those people are money hungry.

I don't see any reason to hurt your friends and family for a little money and five minits of fame......I won't be watching this.

As you pointed out the show is for them to make money by answering the truth about what the question is...personally I don't watch most regular TV or game shows...I watch mostly History, Discovery, NGC, Bio or some such channel...

If you want to win money by being a contestant on such a show then you should expect to be asked stupid questions about your sex life etc. which will embarrass either you or your spouse...that is what the show is all about...same for the ones that get people to eat disgusting things for money...I don't care to watch people make idiots of themselves, I saw way too much of that when I was a police officer and EMT...

But there will always be those who will watch or be on such shows or they would not be running for the length of time they do...doing stupid things for money isn't my idea of fun...

It reminds me of the saying a fellow cop used to say about locks on buildings, they are there to keep out the law abiding citizen not the criminal...a criminal isn't stopped by a lock it only slows him down sometimes enough for us to catch him in the act...

People will make fools of themselves whether or not we watch them do it...and for money some will as it has been shown so often kill for no more than $2.00 just to have the two dollars...why else do scams work...they want something without having to work for it...telling the truth on a game show even though it will hurt their spouse or family means less than getting money for free...even though it isn't really free...

I saw the first season of that show last year and I watched it ruin a few relationships because people cared more about the money than they did about their loved ones. You would hope in a relationship that the other erson knows all that you could possibly have to hide but if not I don't think national TV and for $ is the place and reason for them to find out!

Like most TV shows, 'Moment of Truth' appeals to the lowest common denominator in all of
us.
I would not watch that trash if it were the only show on TV.

Money - the root of all evil

I have heard of the show but, I don't watch it. Most of tv is crap these days. I would have to say though that I am an honest person and the only reason to go on this type of show is to earn money. I might just be desperate enough to do a show like this because of how broke we are. The money is a big incentive but, not truly worth it in the end.
Losing your pride and hurting those you love is just not worth any money in the world.
And, that's my final thought on that.

I watched it one time. Those people should not go on there and make a spectacle of themselves. Many questions should not be asked nor answered. They get personal.

I've watched the show a couple of times, and then I stopped watching..it's ridiculous. Those people who are so desperate to make a few easy bucks that they are willing to hurt and embarrass themselves and their families on national Tv ... But they know this going in. they know they will be asked some very personal and embarrassing questions, that may hurt the people they love and damage their relationships. Sometimes its not as bad as the previews make it out to look.. they edit the promos to make it look like it's this big dramatic deal, but then the answer turns out not to be a negative thing. It's all about how far they're willing to go and how greedy they get.. the first few questions are usually pretty tame..then they get worse as the prize climbs. At least those people are smart enough to exploit their families and air their dirty laundry for a potential big payoff. Look how many people are on talk shows like Jerry Springer and tell all about the most embarrassing things.. some really sick and twisted stuff.. for a plane ticket and a hotel stay. I'm not sure if Springer pays for appearances or not, I can't remember, but I'm sure it's not the 25,000 they can make on this show.

yes, there are some things that just don't need to be said.
We all have thoughts and think things that would hurt others and there is just no reason that everything needs to be out in the open..

there are many questions not to be asked...many, if not most have no bearing on the relationship you are in. Bringing up certain things "just to clear the decks" is senseless. Why inflict pain to those you care about needlessly?

its up to the individual I guess but I see no sense in not simply letting sleeping dogs lie....
