Please take a quick glance at the following articles that I have written(no need to comment), they will give you a bit of background info as you read the following.
Twice a month my church holds a contemporary worship service called Tabernacle. It is held in the church auditorium, which is dimly lit with candle and regularly lighting. It is the purpose of this gathering to grow into a deeper relationship with Christ--to be quiet and still in His presence. At these gatherings we have been studying different forms of prayer and last nights service was on the topic of centering prayer. Centering prayer is when you focus on a specific word. We had about twenty minutes to pray our own centering prayer. My focus was on the word light, as in Jesus is the light of the world and I praised Him for being the light in my life and I lifted up various people that I knew that needed the glorious light of God in their lives.
During one of the singing portions of the service(we had singing, a brief thought on centering prayer and a time to practice this type of prayer, and then more singing) we sang a song that brought me to tears. I do not remember the title of the song, but it did prompt me to take out a picture that I have of my friend and to pray for him and to leave him in the Lord's hands.

Trish-On the regular Sunday services, my church is contemporary with some of the traditional hymns mixed in, but we do these special services twice a month, they are truly a blessing

I never really knew of this different prayer practices until I started attending this church. While they should not take the place of our daily prayers(mealtime prayers, etc.) they are a wonderful addition to ones spiritual life.
