My favorite foods for a fall feast are those I grew up on! Sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows, homemade stuffing, and my maw maw's chocolate fudge pie and brownies. These 3 things remind me of childhood, home, comfort, and love. Every year we still have these items and every year I still sneak in the stove when no one is looking and add extra marshmallows to the mashed sweet potatoes!!! LOL
OOpppsss, forgot my mom is on Gather. I just gave my secret away!!!! hahaha
In the fall, I love to eat hot cereal for breakfast with chopped apples and cinnamon sprinkled on top. I also love to make soup - any kind of warm, healthy soup. Recipes that encourage me to clean out the frige are great. Oh, and don't forget pot roast. I make mine with lots of sliced onions and serve it with sweet and sour red cabbage (its purple color "pops" on the plate). Chocolate, of course, is fantastic at any time of the year, but pumpkin is definetly something I get interested in again as the leaves start to fall. I recently came across an old pumpkin and apple streusel muffin recipe. Now that's good with a steaming hot cup of coffee! Probably my most favorite, though, is the Thanksgiving stuffing (heated outside the bird so its crispy on top). It's loaded with mushrooms, butter, onions and celery. Simple, but fantastic! I find that the most simple recipes really are the best!
Oh my, I'm starting to drool.
I'm ready for new recipes, send the books to me. Believe me, I've never won anything, really!!
Since this topic asked about a feast I'll include my mother homemade recipe for Chicken soup which we east every single Friday night for the Sabbath. When the men come home from the Synagogue and we begin to eat after saying a special prayer to welcome the Sabbath. My mom's soups is amazing! Chicken soup is a great and delicious way to warm up from the cold weather outside! In it there are plenty of vegetables and some chicken .... it's healthy and a known cure for the cold. After all when you don't feel well people do say have plenty of fluids hot tea and don't forget to have some chicken soup!
