One year, we had an adult Halloween party at church. It was a dinner party. Everyone dressed up without masks. Dinner was served with the Halloween theme. Everyone loved the Dinner in a Pumpkin and it kept with the theme. We all had lots of fun. Do adults do anything for Halloween in your area?
I posted this last year and got great reviews from those who made it. So I thought I would post it again since we had so many new members. I hope you enjoy it.
One of the things that was served was:
Dinner In A pumpkin
medium sized pumpkin
1 1/2 Lb lean ground beef
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
3/4 cup chopped celery
3/4 cup chopped onion
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1 can mushrooms
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 cups rice
Black olives
Fresh steamed carrots
Whole cloves
Fresh Parsley
Cut lid from pumpkin and scoop out pumpkin seeds and the other stuff in the pumpkin.
In a large skillet, combine ground beef, green pepper, celery, onion. Cook over med heat until ground beef is browned.
Add next seven ingredients to the skillet mixture. Mix well and then put the mixture into the pumpkin cavity. Place the lid back on the pumpkin.
Place pumpkin on a foil lined cookie sheet.
Bake 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hour
Just before you serve,, decorate the pumpkin by
putting black olives to make eyes,
steamed carrot to make a nose
Whole cloves to make a mouth.
Fresh Parsley leaves to make hair around the opening.
Serve by scooping out some of the baked pumpkin and top with the meat mixture onto each place.
Makes 6 servings.

Everyone should try it!
It does depend on the size of your pumpkin but yes it will fill the pumpkin pretty much up. The pumpkin cooks too so it is blended with the rest of the foods. You do scoop some of it out when you scoop though
In answer to your question, adults dress up even at work and at parties. It seems strange because when I was a kid only kids dressed in costume for Halloween.
We just used regular white rice. I am tempted to add some brown rice this year. Maybe brown it in butter first. What do you think??
Hey, what isn't better browned in butter?!
I heard that. I love butter!!!
And very easy to adapt to your personal tastes.
I can't wait to try this out.
QUESTION: How do you attach the olives as eyes and the carrot as the nose? Parsley could be draped as hair and the gloves can prick the skin of the pumpkin, I understand that part, but what about the olive and carrot?
