I might have the option of splitting my time, after I retire, between NYC and San Diego. How does one do that?

I would sell my house and then invest in something down south. OR Rent for a year to find something I loved. Once I close the cottage I can't come back until the weather gets warm. I think it would be wonderful.

I own a double wide modular home in a resort for adults and enjoy myself. Depending on where (location in real estate is everything) you decide and the type of park you choose from; Your experiences will vary greatly. Talk to realators ( I" am not one) in the area you choose and check the climate conditions and age group of park before you make any decision. I only go to my second home for holiday or extended weekends. Make sure you financially able before you purchase.

I live full-time in a 31' Class C motorhome. And like Debra, I'm now in a Jellystone Park in Maryland. My husband and I are workampers. In October or November, we'll be going back south. Hopefully to Savannah, GA.
So far, so good.

Two years ago my husband and I sold most of our possessions and made the move from upstate NY to Daytona Beach, FL and I love it. While my husband can retire in less than a year I have another 20+ years to work. We live in a 55+ community and I love everything about living in the south (well we haven't lived through a hurricane yet tho!) Sure its hotter than Hades.. but I'll take the heat over the cold, ice and gloom of upstate NY anytime. I wish you well in your venture and if I can be of any assistance please let me know. I used to live in Washington state and there were a lot of people there split the year between there and places like Arizona. We called them snow birds. Funny thing, my dad was living in Tuscon at the time and he met a couple that I knew.

Most either had two houses or used RV's. I could see myself doing it if I still lived in WA, but I don't think that I could stand and RV for that long. My aunt from Spokane does it and they have cats, bird, and dogs with them in a big 5th wheel. I think that I would go crazy.

We are looking at buying a place near Lake Tahoe for this purpose. I can't wait to be able to hit the lake everyday and then come back here during the winter:)
