The other day, someone at "Let Life In" asked me who my best friend is (was). I thought for a second and said:
My best friend’s name is Howie. We have been friends for more than 37 years.
There was to be a rock concert during the summer of 1969 and we decided it might be fun to go. So did a million or so other people. What was just supposed to be a rock concert in the middle of the summer turned out to be Woodstock.
It also turned into the bonding of a friendship. Woodstock was a shared experience for everyone who attended but it was more personal to us. We had gone through a major event together. It’s hard to explain, maybe you had to be there, but that shared, rather unique experience was pivotal to the start of a lifelong friendship.
We’re both almost 60 now and have been there for each other for almost all the major events of each others lives---girlfriends, break-ups, career successes, job losses, marriages, having kids, moves across the country, illnesses, recoveries, major holidays, adoptions, raising kids, kids’ marriages—you name it.
So who is your best friend?
