Scarlet (I Will Never be Hungry Again) O'hairy, my nineteen year old, fuzzy friend previously depicted on these pages, is currently fighting for a few more 'woofs'. After suddenly devloping a set of very frightening symptoms, she was whisked to the hospital where numerous parts of her body were demonstrated to be coming apart. Bleeding ulcers, renal failure, metasticized cancer, among other debilities, were taking their toll. Her head is low and she can't eat or walk easily. She even vomits any water that she drinks.
Apparently, her body suddenly discovered how old it was. However, she is still alert, still trying, and I firmly believe we can get her back on her feet for a little while. I just spent the afternoon with our vet at his clinic. The clinic was closed Wednesday afternoon, but he opened it for our old friend, Scarlet and we began putting out the hottest fires. We think we can cure the most immediate problems and get her back, but we obviously don't know for how long. We were hoping she would reach legal drinking age. I'm not ready to say, "goodbye." Neither is Scarlet. She has some more
bitchin' to do and a few more of Ralph's meals to eat. Ralph told me he wouldn't mind. (Besides, he prefers hers, anyway.)
In fact, not having Scarlet's dish to steal from, he wouldn't eat this afternoon, for a while, anyway.
(Below) After tearing up a red, plastic cup, two computer disks, and something black that I no longer recognize, Ralph awaits Scarlet's return.
Below the two friends are hanging out, last month, while Ralph grows and Scarlet ages.
