Some consumers have large credit card bills, and they should be paid back if they have the money. If you don't, expect calls from the credit card collectors. There are abusive tactics used by credit card collectors which are getting out-of-control.
Dave Ramsey says “Credit Card Collectors are scum.” He depicts a credit card collector as being mostly between jobs who need to earn quick bucks. He also says, “credit card collectors are lying if their month is moving.” These collectors sit in a cubicle several states away, and their only purpose in life is to stir up deep emotions like anger, shame, embarrassment, and fear. They make you do stupid things like:
- Make you stop buying food and start paying unsecured debt.
- Make you pay credit cards bill before paying mortgage payment
- Make you think that you will be sued tomorrow
- Make you declare bankruptcy (and ruin your credit score) when you are nowhere near bankruptcy (btw, anything you keep, child support, IRS debt, and student loans are not bankruptible)
Don’t let these collectors intimidate you. They will not keep their jobs long, anyway. You are better off ignoring them unless you actually have money to pay. Switch to debit card, and spend only on necessary expenses.

all of my credit card debt is right at the 7 yr mark....no, I am not going to pay off these old bills when I can't pay the utilities.
I do realize, however, that I really do owe the money and it was my fault for getting teh credit cards and then not being able to pay them off.
