I have been reading about many gather members who think their 1099 form they received from Gather was incorrect. If you will go to the Today On Gather post for January 30 2009 - you will read the official response from Gather concerning the 1099 forms. At that time I posted it to you.
The information is in the very first section of the post and it is in blue letters. This is only part of what it says "This includes gift cards, cash redemptions, contest prizes or promotional items they received during 2008."
Will this affect you when it comes to entering future contests on gather?

U wishing you laughter
I will continue to enter contests and things for items that I would like to receive. I enjoy getting them too and though it added a little to my 1099 total I don't really care. It's fun getting free stuff.
I usually don't win much stuff anyway. I have won a couple of items though. I will still participate any chance I can.
I will enter for things I am interested...and off-set the winnings with tax-deductible donations to the Food Bank or a charity that benefits women and children...like I've been doing in the past.
Any time you enter a contest for anything, they will usually state "winner pays all applicable taxes".
You are correct, Gather is right.
I still didn't earn enough though so I didn't have to worry about it. I made about $460 then I won 2 books, and a gather sweatshirt; the winning items I knew couldn't have added up to the other $150..
This self employment tax stuff is killing me and I don't need the surprises!
