*Through grit teeth* Good day all!
The gritting of teeth would be because I decided to throw caution to the wind and type today money article into the gather publish tool directly instead of using a program on my computer. Well that bit me right in the butt. After an hour of work gather lost it all. I made up new words.
So here we go again. I will do my best to make the second draft as good as the first.
(not that you saw the first...sigh)
Ok a few days ago I asked "What would you do with $100." The rules were simple"
You could not spend it on yourself or family and you could not use more of your own money.
You could raise more money and use things you already had.
I expected a few great comments but you guys came ou tin force! Over 80 wonderful charitable ideas were posted!
One of the great ideas was from Susan S. www.susansmoaks.gather.com would turn the $100 into $400 worth of food using coupons and then donate that food! I was impressed especially since I have only saved a few bucks here and there with coupons.
So I was very happy to get these great tips from Susan! (with permission)
I buy a paper each Sunday and keep the inserts
CVS has extra care bucks, they have monthly and weekly deals, there is always something you can get for free, you buy it and then get the extra care bucks to buy something else and it goes on and on.
You can buy coupons on eBay too! (who knew??)
Example:
Toilet paper that goes on sale for $1 at Albertsons and there are coupons for $1 off, so I pay $3 for 20 coupons and get 20 4 packs for the tax and the $3 I paid for the coupons.
Some stores have coupon booklets in them, we have Publix that is great! I pick up several of them every time I go into the store, then I use the coupons along with a buy one get one free sale or something like that to get the stuff really cheap, sometimes you buy things you don't need and donate them if you get them free or better than free!
If you want to learn to coupon check out www.hotcouponworld.com
Thank you Susan!
And now some more kitchen tips! Anyone else having a sense of De Ja Vu?(spelling??)
1. Use coffee grounds twice. Just add a bit of fresh the second day. My husband says the second day pot is better!
2. Wash aluminum foil and baggies or containers for reuse. I do not use baggies anymore, but I am learning that we are now making corn and soy based containers that biodegrade!
3. Add water to your liquid dish soap and stretch it
Use less powder dish soap in your dish washer
4. Always, always pack a lunch (eating out is crazy expensive as we all know)
And if you use individual plastic water bottles and juice boxes/cartons/bottles, please STOP.
By reusable travel mugs for your family and use those instead. Make juice from concentrate, pour milk from the gallon into containers, buy a water filter for your faucet and a water filter pitcher for your fridge.
You will save save save and SAVE THE EARTH!
Ok I am beat. One article for the price of two....hmmm sounds like our economy right now.
Bye all!

Carol, even more reason to save. Can you increase your income??
Recycle those cans, glass bottles and newspapers whenever possible.
Sorry about losing your writing. I know there's nothing that feels worse; it's happened to me bunches of times. Have you noticed, though: the latter attempts are invariably better!
Never knew about buying eBay coupons to shop with; sweet!
Seriously, sorry the frustrations got to you. Try not to type original material into Gather's editor and you'll find a huge savings in sanity. Some of us cannot afford to lose any, but you have so much to spare AND such a tolerance for rewriting lost work, that you should just do it to serve as a good example. (did I say seriously? I lied!)
Thanks - as usual - for the sensible tips. You remind me I can be a better steward!
(And coupons on eBay!)
I think instead of juice concentrate, it is better to eat fresh fruit. Although it costs more than concentrate. concentrate is pasteurized, which kills ALL the vitamin C and most of the other living enzymes in the fruit are dead or inactive.
Fresh fruit has antioxidants which concentrate does not have, ANYMORE. So eating fresh fruit keeps the doctor away, which saves money.
Don't know if you have mentioned this, but darn your clothes is a good money saver. Handwash or steam instead of dry cleaning, cold water wash - I am sure you've mentioned this.
I used to dilute the shampoo and still do - as well as the liquid dish soap.
i find Ivory liquid soap is highly concentrated and lasts a lot longer than Joy or other. Joy is quite decent as a shampoo, too.
I used to use the coffee grounds twice - for years but no longer.
Eat legumes - preferably dried = instead of meat. It is healthier and less expensive. Just soak and boil the legumes and eat with rice.
Use black pepper, olive oil and lemon juice - fresh lemons - as a condiment instead of commercial sauces and condiments - it is healthier and less expensive. Plastic bottles such as those that contain mustard, ketchup and salad dressings - contain harmful chemicals. Glass bottles do not.
Kathyrn,
Yes I have metioned those extra things in other articles! I have to spread them out! LOL!
Great tips, Mandi!
Mary, it's great isn't it?? LOL!
Yeah, just keep the bottle or plastic container sound, maybe there's a deposit or sell those to the "men at works or the men in thighs"...
WANDA I DID NOT NOW THAT!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR THE TIP!!!!!
I enjoy your money saving tips very much. Thanks for taking the time and effort.
NO THANKS... dont really good at guns... just the ordinary advice from America's Sheriff Patrick F. Garrett...
I have started unplugging things when not using them.
I used to have lots of things left plugged in, 2 cell chargers, walkie talkie radio base, camera battery charger, a charger for AA batteries, and I am sure there are many others. Now it is down to the walkie talkie charger, hubbys cell, and the phone base that is plugged in all the time.
Will take a little bit to see if it makes a difference or not.
I just wanted to stop by since I am finally going through what is now listed as under 4,800 pieces of gather new mail that is sitting in my inbox on here.
With that mentioned I just came across either a mailing from you yourself, or someone else brought this piece to my attention. You or they felt that your creation should be shared with the gather community, which I am very glad that it was passed on to me to view. So I wanted to say Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to publish it here on gather for us to all view. :o)
As well before I leave you I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year... in 2009 :o)
