We personally lost a bundle in the stock market. We were counting on this second stimulus check to help keep our heads above water now I hear this:According to ABC New.com
Tuesday 9/30/08 UPDATE: 2nd Stimulus Check Appears to be Dead
"Lost in all the coverage of the $700 Billion Bailout Package was news that Congress last last week shelved a bill that would have started the wheels turning on a 2nd Economic Stimulus Check this fall.
The biggest reason is that with Congress grappling with how to fund a $700 Billion financial rescue plan, no one had the time or stomach to find funding for another $50 Billion in Rebate Checks for Taxpayers.
It's conceivable the plan could be resurrected before the end of the year, but the Bush Administration has expressed no support for a 2nd Stimulus at any point, and Democratic support appears to be waning due to the incredible cost of the financial bailout.
Doesn't that Stink? Wall Street fails, so our hopes for another rebate check to help pay for gas and groceries goes out the window.

So not only did we loose a bundle in the stock market but now we cannot count on the check. It will be amazing if we make it through the next 5 years with roofs over our heads.
What do you think???

So, I never counted on the second one.
We can only hope that the market bounces back...almost 500 points today, so that's a start.
Go to this site and find out where your check is:

As for the stimulus checks....I wasn't counting on it, but feel for those that were....You are more than welcome to come and live with me ANY DAY !!! :)
I dont think big business should get a bail out either. Yes we should get a stimulus check if they can give money to millionaires. Heck they could downsize. That is what we have to do. Some of us have to decide between medicine and food. Praise God I am not there yet but plenty of old folks are.
I'm sure the second economic stimulus was shelved because it cannot be used effectively to fulcrum political capital.
The stock market dropped 780 points within moments after the news that the House thumbed down the proposal the sky was falling on our economy ...our total way of life is threatened as Wall Street will perish!we heard over and over again in the hours prior to the vote ..but then it recovered 500 points within moments of opening this morning (something most news agencies failed to report)..that kind of puts a hole in the old 'End of our economy as we know it OMG back to the caves and better bring the matches in case the Gods take back fire, too
I am sick to death of all those bastards in Washington and Wall Street playing the backbone of this country, the middle class ,like a big, dumb xylophone.
The squeakiest wheels right now are those that are afraid to lose a couple million and maybe have to shelve a few luxury trips in the ole Lear to some wonderfully ,exotic place that We the Sheeple can't even imagine ,it is sooo lux..
meanwhile we struggle to live..make the bills, keep that roof over the head, pray we can get one of the kids through college..or maybe the American Dream of some has been condensed to being able to put food on the table daily like a can of soup or maybe saving to buy enough heat for the winter..
There is a serious disconnect between our elected ( still not sure about that) officials and the likes of John Q. Public ; the void continues to grow supported by corporate money gifts and promises.
If the 700 billion bailout passes one can expect to pay more federal taxes..meaning Tax Freedom Day will not fall on or near April 23rd as it did this past spring 2008 but will probably bleed into June.
I am sick to death of the idea so much more of my salary will be handed over for some mystery money spending spree..To say it's to save our economy is not good enough as this bunch of liars and robber barons have screwed us so often in the past 8 years...and there still is no strict oversight as to what will happen to the cash if the Paulson Plan passes ..oh except that the investment company Goldman Sachs can expect share bailout..turns out Paulson sits on the board.
You and I are so screwed losing as we did with our retirement...but the big payola to Corporate will not bring those losses back..only benefit their bottom line..Experts are not even sure if that oft quoted figure of 700 billion is too much, not enough, whatever. One thing is certain: you and I will lose even more paying out for that new tax burden.
We are losing so much more than our 401K's thanks to these dunderheads....
please read my poem BOHICA if you get a moment..
I think that is what our taxes are intended to do but they are used for things that I totally disagree with. Why do we owe so much to china??
We (the people) have let them get away with this crap for a really long time and just stuck our heads in the sand. We (the people) need to face facts. You can't have tax cuts and increased spending, you can't have deregulation and expect people to be honest and ethical.
We are going to be paying for our -see no evil, hear no evil, hear no evil- attitude one way or another. These times are hard and only going to get harder.
" JUMP, you F**kers"
If I could, I would just put a tent out in the woods. I don't think my kids would like it very much though.
Japan ,too..but they've been on board as our debt buyin' buds for years..
currently 52% of our Nation's debt is owned by foreign countries.
sure would hate to see them call those notes in..
What I have to say is that I think that these banks and businesses should be responsible for their mistakes and not rely on taxpayers to bail them out (that was the first bill)
I hope that something happens, a lot of people are loosing big bucks in investments, thankfully I don't have anything to loose.
Mooch
I've been unemployed for two months due to my employer of the previous 15 years going bankrupt and dissolving the company. I have every reason to want money from any source I can find. I'd rather see a solution to the credit crisis than see a token check from the government.
NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE should depend on hand outs to live by. Its nice to have it, but I would never count on it for food. Even if I was homeless, I wouldnt depend soley on handouts to keep me around, you better bet I'd be dumpster diving and whatever else was neccessary.
However, I don't think anyone that is research savvy could be homeless anymore. There are SOO many things to do now to stay off the street. but then again, I said you had to be research savvy, and many people are not. Oh and don't think I mean you can be living in a place you want to be by researching programs alone, I just said you'd be off the street.
