How about President George Bush pretending like he was a real soldier?
How we ever elected a draft evader to be commander in chief of our military is beyond me.

That said Obama is not only not qualified to be the Comander in Chief he would be the second worse choice for the job that we could find. The first worse choice being Ms Clinton.
I don't understand McCain and his stance. One would think a man of his background would be a lot less prone to put our troops in jeaprody in Illegal occupations and wars on foreign soil.
Jim I didnt vote for him either.
ew, on second thought, that offends even me. *shudder*
(paraphrasing a column I recently read) However showing it and "accidentally" mispronouncing his name as "Osama Hussein" on Fox News , McCain rallies and across Wal-Mart's loudspeakers so trailer park denizens will get even more confused and panicky and start loading up the bunker with Ding-Dongs and Coors just in case the Muslim radicals take over.
This is too personal to continue with, but I have major problems with playing "militry dress-up." But that's just probably because I had two children to comfort their father's full military funeral.
Here is the news piece that inspired this.
Millions of hugs to you Joy:)
And Gary is correct, Bush did wear traditional garb in those countries. Remember when he strolled hand-in-hand with one guy because that was tradition.
Will the duplicity ever end?
This is all I have to say (quote):" If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope." -- Bill Clinton, 2004
Keywords from Bill Clinton: Fear and Hope. We have a hope candidate and a fear candidate. You decide.
And I second other people's comment about not finding Obama's being in Somalian garb the least bit offensive.
I'm not the least bit offended by anyone's choice of clothing - so long as they cover up stuff I may not want to see - and I suspect most people aren't either.
It's another tempest in a teapot.
"Bush at least was in the National Guard." Sure he was. wink, wink.
But, what's stopped Obama from serving his country? Oh that's right he won't even put his hand over his heart half the time when our National Anthem is played. He doesn't wear a flag pin of our country. BUT, to show respect to an elder in another country he WILL don their traditional garb.
What constitutes "hiding the facts", Juan? And don't you think "coming clean" denotes that he did something wrong? I'm baffled by your choice of words. Please explain.
Well, Lori, I have no problem with the fact that I do think that people who have served our country make better commanders in chief of the armed forces. When possible, in evaluating our choices, I think it's a very valid consideration and should hold some priority in our election decisions.
The phrase, draft dodger, however, when applied to GWB, does not help to make that point because it invalidates your premise. Draft dodging is a felony. In order to be a draft dodger you must first be drafted. A draft dodger is a felon that refuses to serve after being drafted. George Bush was not drafted. The same accusations were made of Clinton, who also my have pulled strings, but you have to call it was it is and not what it isn't. Neither Clinton nor Bush are felons who dodged the draft.
Both GWB and Bill Clinton were draft evaders. This is different from draft dodging, however. This is not a legal offense, but it does say something, and depending on what you're trying to prove, it can be significant. I can't speak directly to this article's premise since its premise is false. If you'd like to change it to the truth, then maybe I can comment with an opinion.
GW Bush while in a Eastern Europe shook hands with his gloves on, that was taken as an insult there. Bush did it by accident but if he was more socially aware of the culture the entire incident could have been avoided. Obama need to explain these cultural facts to the people.
Also I had a friend who was in Desert Storm and a Sheik from Kuwait wanted to thank the US troops for helping and bought nice watches as presents, the US troops refused because of what ever. Believe me this Sheik felt that he was spit on when this happened- this was one ticked off individual.
Rev...I would make chocolate at work mandatory:)
Obama did the diplomatic thing. The shrub - he doesn't even know what he's doing - GI Joe wanna be. I say we throw his and Cheney's dead asses in the front lines and run.
Are you saying the Obama camp should have posted the picture somewhere before it got out so the American people know about it? If so, you are saying it's somewhat controversial. Explain?
"Coming clean". People who get accused of something come clean. So you are admitting the picture is an accusation of something?
The pic was taken during an OFFICIAL US visit to Kenya. He did not go there to simply visit relatives. There was a bunch of US officials with him including the US general (retired now) who came out and denounce the picture publication.
As for the Obama picture, I consider it a non-issue. I realize that after more than seven years of Bush many people watching someone being diplomatic and culturally aware comes as quite a shock, but trust me. Presidents used to do it all the time.
My 2 uncles were officers both in the air force. One put in 30 years and one 40.
My boss is a combat wounded vietnam veteran...he came out with the rank of Sgt. Major. He did 4 tours in Nam.
Our VP was his CO in nam.
So dont tell me Ed about serving my country I am surrounded by people who DID their duty and more.
They didnt try and escape their duty like Bush.
When one is in Holland, one wears wooden shoes...
When one is in Mexico, one wears a serape'...
Apparently, when one is in Somalia, one wears the traditional garb.
And, as far as not saluting the flag or wearing a flag pin: Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of American men and women have DIED in battle to give each American these rights (among others...). The LEAST we could do is respect their sacrifice to our (REAL) American ideals and celebrate the fact that we live in a country that (for the meantime) allows -- nay, ENCOURAGES -- the principle of "to each his/her own".
Intellectually I agree that we with Jean's comment "Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of American men and women have DIED in battle to give each American these rights (among others)" but I can't get past the picture of a sitting President who refuses to wear the flag on his or her lapel or who refuses to salute the very symbol of the country he or she is suppose to represent.
(I am also highly amused by the people that STILL think Obama is Muslim and refused to put his hand on his heart during the national anthem. Ever heard of Snopes?)
I agree and concede that there is a lot of misinformation, half-truths and lies out in world about Obama as well as his opponents both Democrat and Republican. That is why I ask and ask question after question in order to sift through all the garbage and eventually come out with at least some truths.
But you can't argue with facts, such as you have never seen Obama wear a U.S. flag pin on his lapel, I have seen pictures in which everyone but he is saluting the flag. As much as I want to, I can't get past that fact.
I don't wear a flag pin so I'm not a patriot? We are so cynical that a pin decides who is a patriot and who is not? Give me a break. You found a picture that showed Sen Obama had not yet put his had over his heart but you, nor anyone else, has seen a video that shows that Sen Obama has failed to show proper respect to our flag. A picture is an instant of time. Where's the continuation? If the Repubs had it believe me it would be front and center.
You don't find it interesting that the Republicans have you thinking about a pin and not about issues facing this country? You like being played?
Oh, I don't wear a flag pin on my suit lapel because I choose not to. I do however wear my Purple Heart lapel pin when I so choose. When I don't wear it am I not as good a patriot as "Five Deferment" Cheney who "had other priorities" than serving during Viet Nam or maybe that man that used daddy's connections to get into the Air National Guard and avoid combat in "Nam?
