Friday (1/23/2009) was the first day Kyleigh moved to the younger classroom. I had previously told her what was going on, but it was hard to tell whether she could comprehend.
When I dropped her off, she seemed confused and scared, but she was crying no more than normal when I left her with the teacher.
I checked her out a few times during the day via the webcam. Kyleigh was still not participating in group activities, but neither were the other kids. Kyleigh did look more "in place" in this class.
Kyleigh had her back to the webcam, so I couldn't see her lunch plate. However, the teacher was helping other kids occasionally and never helped her. So I would assume that Kyleigh was eating fine by herself.
Something's funny during nap time. When Kyleigh was in the bigger kids' class, everyone else was sleeping nicely, so Kyleigh just lied still quietly in her cot even though she was awake. In this younger kids' class, the boy in the cot next to her was also not napping. He propped up and moved around. Another kid also propped up from time to time. At first Kyleigh was lying down still like she used to do. Then she kept turning around to look at those two. Finally she decided she could get up too, so she propped herself up. The teacher came in to put them down in the cot and covered them in the blankets. But as soon as the teacher left, they all propped up again.
When I picked up Kyleigh, she didn't cry and said goodbye to the classmates, the teacher, the table, the chairs, the building blocks, the Christmas tree, the paper stars, and the fish. She seemed to be in pretty good mood.
On the way home, I told her that I had a gift for her to reward her being good at school. Kyleigh replied, "Sheng dan shou (Christmas tree)". I said, no it was not a Christmas gift. After dinner, Daddy held Kyleigh and covered her eyes, while I retrieved the gift from the basement. It was a bag of 250 air-filled balls to complete the gum ball pool. Kyleigh was very excited and asked Daddy to pour the balls into the pool. Little Bee was also swimming in the pool with Kyleigh.

So far it looked like the switch was a good decision.

I taught 4 year old kindergarten for a year...boy this brings back memories!
Kids adapt pretty well and it sounds like everything is going to be okay with her new class.
