I need ideas!!

One of my favorite things in life is taking pictures and editing pictures.  I am eager to learn more and be the best photographer I can be.
BUT...
I don't live in an exciting place, there are no mountains or oceans nearby to take gorgeous photos of.  I can't afford to travel there either.
I have tried really hard to find beauty around me and capture it because I read that is a sign of a great photographer.
I looked at the pictures I've posted and am thinking I take pictures of too much of the same thing.
I take pictures of my kid, my cats, the trees, the weather, flowers, sunsets and not much else.  I enjoy the pictures I take but golly I want to add to what I take pictures of.
I don't live in an exotic place, I don't want to take pictures of things that people will think are boring or that I think are boring and not beautiful.

Please give me some ideas of other things I can take pictures of!!!

I'm sort of in the same predicament. It seems like I take the same things over and over. I think my dogs are adorable, but that doesn't mean Gatherers want to see 341 images of them. With the crappy weather, it's a big deal just to go to the grocery store. One thing that always catches my eye when I am strolling around through the images is when someone shoots something from a unexpected angle, or does a macro on an everyday thing, or uses sepia or black and white on uncomplicated images. Hope you get some good answers, I'll keep checking back and take them, too.

I love bw but haven't done as much with sepia. Angles are a great idea.
I'm hoping for some more that I haven't thought of, hopefully we'll both be inspired!!

I don't have much advice for you. Photograph anything that evokes an emotion in you, positive or negative. Also, look at the small and the large picture. Sometimes focusing on a small detail will give a more interesting photo than one of the larger structure.

Keep your camera with you and whenever you see see something "odd" take a picture. I bet for every great picture there's a 100 stupid ones.

I always enjoy your pictures! :) I was thinking of taking pictures of funny things or some of my items I collect. All I know is I think it's a good idea to keep a camera handy all the time if you can where ever you go because that's when you come across things where you find yourself saying, darn, wish I had my camera along. Happens to me anyways! Also I find myself saying I wish I had a decent camera!

Consider Snowmen, kids sledding, ice-cycle formations, birds flocking, later as spring warms, insects on plants, interesting formations of plant, or rocks. Buildings that might look interesting in contour and shape or color. Other peoples pets, Fences with interesting things along or on them. Candles and Fruit or Flower arrangements, Gifts piled up, Birthdays and Partys you migth attend. Chuch steeples, and bells, Grave stones, Go to a photo Website and get some ideas from other photos and then go around your town, or local area taking photos of something similar, An old bucket or mailbox, An old pair of boots, An old house or shed. They tell storys use your imagination. Bodies of water, fountains, Rivers, creeks, mudpuddles.

Faith, you take great pictures and you don't have to travel to do that. Take what you have and make them great, that's a sign of a great photographer. Really anyone can take pictures of a mountain and add density and make it better. The pictures of your cats are breath taking. Take the shots of the kids when they don't see you coming. Natural shots, not posed ones, those to me are the best.

Take images of tableaux. Maybe a collections of your kids' toys, a comfy chair with a book, a basket of rolls on a pretty tablecloth. Then, you could use those kinds of pictures with the pictures you take of your family to use in scrapbooks, if you do them.

What kind of editing software you have? Make something simple like a pic with a road andturn it to a day at a lake. Editing and changing pictures is fun.

Faith, I just take pics and pics and pics and then study them in my photo editing programs to see if I can crop or zoom in on something interesting. That also helps me to look at things differently too.

I find all types of things interesting and have never thought of your photos as boring, after all, it's all new to me even if it is "old" to you.

I take my camera with me everywhere I go. Usually if I don't have it with me, I always see something to photograph. I've found that I have to just open my eyes and see things in a different way. Since I've been taking pictures, I have found beauty in things I would rarely have even noticed before. I try for new angles and perspectives, and it is amazing how something very mundane can look enchanting with the right angle and light.
