In my opinion i dont think i should have to eat a cow that has been cloned by something close to deceased and not know because it doesn't say on the label.
Exactly! I think that if we are going to pursue these areas of science (which inevitably will be done), the products should definitely be labelled so consumers drive the process. That goes for GMO foods, too. It's getting scary when they start to patent life forms. Some think that in the future, they'll just clone and patent some kind of labor-providing humanoids -- then just get rid of the rest of us! So this science definitely needs safeguards and transparency, so we know what is really going on without revealing something like trade secrets. Thanks for the provocative poser!
We'ver been doing genetic modification on plants for hundreds of years...back to Mendelve... no one has cared before...just in the last 5 yrs. or so...
I don't care for the idea of cloning...though I understand why one might want to clone animals....scary though
It's scary. Cows got sick because they were being fed with theirs and other animal products. Then people got sick from eating the cows. Bovine spongieform something or other. Remember?
Everytime a plant is cloned the benifits in them decrease, I do not eat Beef mostly fish, chicken range feed. And less and less of that. Grow your own, ask your grandmothers if they have any seeds that they grew grow backwards,the food is better. I found seeds from the 30's that still grow grandma was very wise.
cloning cattle is far more expensive than natural breeding...as long as cost remains important, this is not much to worry about. like Janet says though, we've been modifying animals/plants for thousands of years and for the vast mjority of it, its been benefical to us.
I think that we deserve to know what we are eating and where it has come from. The food industry does not have a right to keep this information from consumers.
Nyota it is called Mad Cow's Disease :o) Well that is the short of it :o) An interesting fiction book on cloning (sci fi) by Robin Cook called, "Shock" is REALLY GOOD! You should check it out. Not that it has to do with eating animals that have been cloned, but it is a good read LOL
