The largest tree in my yard blew down, some of the shingles blew off the roof and my arbor with the swing attached was blown over. I was one of the lucky ones. There were trees on houses, cars and some were blocking streets!
My biggest problem was with the oxygen. I had portable tanks for the daytime, but at night time I needed continuous oxygen. The tanks that I had only lasted for 4 hours each, and I only had two tanks so I had to conserve!
We were without electricity from Sunday morning to Wednesday morning! I can't tell you how difficult this has been for me! I wasn't prepared at all! I called around everywhere trying to find a radio and flashlights but everything was sold out! You can't even buy batteries!
All of the food in my refrigerator and freezer is spoiled! I tried to keep my insulin cold with ice packs but they melted to quickly. Now I must use what I have within 30 days. After that, it's no good!
This whole experience has been a bit of a wake-up call. I should have been prepared for this. It could have been so much worse! I am one of the lucky ones. Many people still don't have any power here!
After we got power I was taken to the emergency room that night. After some special medicaton and a breathing treatment I was released and am feeling much better!
My girlfriend said that all the terrorists have to do is take electricity away from us and we are in trouble! She is so right!
Here are some photos of my yard.

We need to do things now and not wait till it happens.
By the way I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the 50's and we had a storm such as you mentioned. On my building, the trees took down the fire excapes on the side and another stair on the other side without damageing the building. Trees came down all over the city including at the front and rear of my car while I was inside buying insurance from a friend of mine. He kept writting the insurance while this was happening. We had to even break to get some trees out of cars at the red light.
She was making a joke of how unprepared we are! In other words, it doesn't take much to throw us into a state on confusion!
I learned how rough it could be in Arkansas in the late 60's when I was without for 17 days.
Then got reminded in 1996 when the ice storm knocked all the power off in Thurston county here in Olympia, WA.
Did you have much damage?? It was very, very scary!
Glad you were safe and I hope the insulin will be okay until you can get some more.
Thank you so much for the information! I will be sure to check out your articles! I could definitely use the help! I agree that we need to do something now rather than wait! What is frightening is that there are many people out there with disabilities worse than mine and I'm sure that they have a very difficult time of it!
Mother nature can certainly be unpredictable and frightening! I will definitely be better prepared next time! Thanks for stopping by!
Ike certainly was kicking butt! I was teasing my husband saying that both "Ike and Tina" were going at it! LOL! That wind was really something! Thanks for commenting!
That sounds like a good idea! I would like to have my entire house run off of solar energy eventually! When I lived in California, I had a solar panel with tanks on the roof that heated the water before it got into the hot water heater! That saved us so much money! It would take quite a bit of money to modify the entire house, but it would be worth it! Thanks for stopping by!
I'm glad to hear you're safe Nina
God Bless
Hi Marianne, yes, there were shingles flying off! I was afraid that the house was going to fly away and that I was going to end up in the land of OZ! Do you think that they have the internet there??? LOL!
We were lucky we kept power this time. we went with out power for over two weeks from a ice storm a few years back, lost all our food etc. it was horrible
glad you are ok, Oh and you can get no salt canned goods to put in your emergency kit
canned beans for protein is a must to have on hand
It's amazing how that storm came all the way up to Ohio! Akron is mega miles from me! WOW! Glad you made it through ok.
Hi Laura,
It was nice that you were away. Glad that your damage was minimal.
Thanks for the info! It is so odd the way these storms can hit one spot and not another! I can't imagine being out of power for a two weeks!!
My goal is to eventually have a home that can function all on it's own!!
Thanks for the info!
Hi Kay,
Sorry about the damage that you had, but I'm glad that you had power! That storm was very strange! No rain...not one drop! Just wind, wind and more wind!!!
Hi Liz,
You are right! A generator is a must! I am not going through this again without one! And you are right, I will definitely be prepared next time!
Blessings ~
Your Friend,
René
i swear, the weather just keeps getting more violent... scary... God bless you...
love and hugs...

Nina, I have missed seeing you often on here lately. I am fixing my email notificiations. Hope you are doing well. Take care.
Just think, that if you and your neighbors had joined together and set up a moble village, you could have brought it out of storage and taken care of your whole area. Also, if you don't get hit you can loan it to the ones that need it so they don't have to suffer.
The village can be most any size and type as long as it takes care of your needs. By joining together, you can afford generators, pumps, lifts, etc. that will help your recovery while living together in the village.
If you or someone you know want to learn my plan, I have posted some of it to get you started on my chat sites. My peoples handbook is available for only$14.95 at my web site at www.gswansonbooks.com. I also will help any of you chatters and friends prepare for the coming storms. I would like to give everyone my handbook, but I have already given more away then I can afford. Information I can afford to give and help where I can via the media.
Glad you're ok.
you've got some really good photos of the damage.
I’ll spend the day on gather, trying to see it all.
There’s quite a few discussions and lots of pictures too.
I’m looking at the videos adding comments galore for you.
So here on the eve of St Paddy’s Day, with all the Irish Luck.
Here’s hoping you get enough points today to make at least a buck!
Happy Monday!
