CENSORSHIP? DON'T UNDERSTAND. WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THIS?

I am so upset and stressed out! Most of you know what I'm going through at the moment. I started to post a joke this morning and discover that my previous joke was flagged!

Most of my friends seem to like my jokes. But someone "flagged" my joke entitled: "The priest who lost his cock!" Here is the message that I got:

This article has been flagged by the community (Incorrect Adult Settings).

And then when I put my cursor over the question mark, it said that no one could see it anymore until it was reviewed. It also said that I may have violated gather terms of service! OMG! Am I in trouble? Are they going to kick me out?

I have no problem flagging for adult content, but is never occured to me that this was bad. What bother's me is that anyone can come along and do this, and you don't even know your accusser?
Has this happened to any of you guys?
What do I do now? I think my feelings are hurt more than anything.

My emotions are all over the place, and then I see this, which nearly pushes me over the edge. I'm on my way to take my mother-in-law to the doctor's, so I will check back later, but please tell me...what do I do about this?

I didn't see the joke but if by cock it was referring to a chicken you should be fine but if it was referring to genitals you should have marked inappropriate language or something adult

I didn't see it but I wouldn't worry about it. Some people seem to have nothing better to do than cause trouble. Just delete the article. Repost it and flag it yourself if you feel it should be flagged.

I never flag articles either. I do mark them for adults only. Not that that will stop the kids from looking.

It's an adult joke.

I do understand your point of view. I also understand the tight-lipped church ladies who don't wish to be exposed to off-color humor of any kind.

Nina, this, like it or not, is a public forum. When in doubt, hit the 'adult' setting, so the tight-lipped church ladies don't get their panties all in a bunch (they live for that, actually)

I discovered just yesterday that someone flagged one of my poems, accusing me of stealing someone else's content, whatever that means! It's a poem I wrote for my brother many years ago. You might have read it at some time, but it's titled "Just A Few Years On Me That's All". I don't know where they come off doing that to someone they don't even know! Anyway Nina, try not to take it too personal... Go on doing what you're doing. If you feel you should contact somebody then do so.

Don't worry about it, I get flagged all the time. If you should have had the mature content setting, you can always repost it with the right flag, and delete the other.
Its a gather right of passage to be flagged :)
Just wait til you get flagged for the mysterious 'other', when you make someone mad LOL

It's not a big deal, Nina, honest. Gather will review the flag and see if they think it was an appropriate flag. If they decide it was, they will send you an email letting you know what they want you to do with the article. If they decide it wasn't an appropriate flagging, they'll clear the flag. No biggie. They won't take your license to gather. :)
I didn't see the joke, but I'm guessing that cock referred to a rooster. In this case, the word is completely acceptable and Gather will probably just remove the flag and we can then again view your joke.
If it was indeed riske, they'll just ask you to properly flag it the next time.
Most of the time, this would go unnoticed, you just were unlucky.

Karl offers good advice. Anything remotely off-color should be flagged as adult just to avoid having someone else report it.

Good advice here. Next time if you think that someone else might flag it flag it yourselfbefore they have a chance. There was nothing inappropriate with the joke but I'm sure that someone objected to the word.

Thank you guys for your help! I just checked and the flag information is gone? I emailed Chuck at support but I haven't heard back because I don't think my regular email is working right.

I got flagged once early on also. I didn't even notice it for a while! Eventually, Gather checked it out and removed the flag. It's happened to a lot of people. I didn't see your post but it sounds like once Gather checks it out, they will remove the flag.

I wouldnt worry about it to much, most likely it was someone just bouncing around gather and felt like flagging things. I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, but it was for a different reason.

had it happen many times, If its got something that should be flagged just fix it, if the insane flagger done it for no reason email gather to remove it. Your fist flag Im sure you will get more the more time your here. some people just dont have anything better to do.

I actually did see this joke when you first posted it. I agree with kimber on this-if it was referring to a chicken (which it WAS) then it should be fine. It was simply a play on words. As in the joke it is others interpretation that messed it all up! Hope you are feeling better and that your mother-in-law's appointment went ok. She has been in my prayers.

This has happened to me many times (politcal passion makes some people very stupid) . . . even my pelican photo was flagged. Don't worry one iota about it. I posted an article about a little village in Austria call Fucking (pronounced Fooking) which is NOT obscene . . . but there are many here on Gather with very limited activity going on . . . ummmm . . . upstairs (if you kow what I mean)! Anyway Penni is right, flag it yourself (I flagged mine too) and your connections can still all see it . . .

I have not seen your jokes or the article in question, however some of my stuff has been flagged before and after the Gather "powers that be" reviewed it, it was released. You received some good advice in the above comments, if you're unsure if something will offend someone else....just flag it when you're publishing it. Some people are more sensitive than others. Good luck to you on this.

Nina you need not worry. I read the joke and it was fine. It did however, need to be flagged. Not because of the words, but because of the insinuation of one word. Flagging just keep people who wish not to read a particular kind of article, from receiving it. I had my guarded view turned on for a while, but realized I was missing some good stuff. I don't like raunchy stuff, but even I can be slightly risque. You just keep putting them up. Sounds like I won't be the only one to read them.
