Would you still use Gather if you didn't earn points for gift cards?

If yes, would you spend as much time on it as you now do?

Just a little survey out of curiosity :)

I would stay, but I might spend a little less time on it, but I do enjoy reading everyone's work, seeing their photos, and getting to know everyone!

I would still Gather- but the gift cards are an incentive and I probably wouldn't spend as much time here as I do.

I am sure that I would stay with Gather even if there were no points. I may spend a bit less time on here but I would still use it. I like the many different types of people that you get to "meet" and also the information that is shared in so many different formats.

I would definitly stay! It would be really sad but I would stay! Probably not as much time no.. I call it my work somtimes the money really helps my family and I would probably spend more time with them if I really did not benefit from this but I would definitly stay its my outlet with adults rather then my children! ;))

I've used other sites to show off my photography, and my thought is, if your gonna spend time online promoting your work, you mid as well get paid to do it.

So the answer is - if gather didnt give gift cards I honestly wouldnt be here..

I would. I don't do it for the points. I learn a lot from comments on my fiction as well as reading comments good writers make about others' writing.

Plus some good humor here and good people.

Yes I definately would, as half the time I don't even pay any attention to my points. I have only gotten one gift card so far and gave it to my husband. My sister wanted me to join Gather, as she knows how a love people, I just have always been that way! When I am out shopping or doing errands, I love to make eye contact with people and smile at them, as 99% of the time they will smile right back at you and I like to think it put a little happiness in their day. I had an elderly man tell me once that I had a smile like a rose and I made his day, as most people don't even acknowledge that he is there and it makes him feel so alone.

but they do make hubby somewhat less cranky about my gathering... he likes home depot
Considering all the system hiccups and other abnormalities of this site...I might migrate somewhere else similar that did have a reward program. Or get animated and launch my own site!

I would still spend time on here. I love having an outlet for my writing, even when they're a tad angry or emotional. I, also, enjoy "meeting" so many other great people, and reading the work of so many really talented writers.

I do really enjoy my Gather experience. The gifts are the icing on the cake. So perhaps I wouldn't have cake so often if there was no icing.

I would definitely stay. I might not, however, comment or rate content as much, as I often do that because I know a particular person IS here to earn something either for themself and family or for a cause. In other words, I'd probably do more "lurking".

I might stay , but would probably focus on the few close friends I have made.
I enjoy the interaction, but my goal is earning the home depot cards FROM interacting.

Yes, because I was on gather for 2 months before I knew anything about the points, so I surely did not join for the points. I would be on it just as much as I am now (if w/o points) since I am retired! (Earnings points, for GC or cash, are great though)!!!

Has anyone ever figured out how many hours they are on gather to earn one of those gift cards? I've been here almost every night for 4 months and still haven't gotten 2000 points. I don't know how others do it. I've been spending 3 to 4 hours per night lately and that's just too much time out of my life for a few dollars worth of gift cards, so I'm saying I'm here for the friends I've made and enjoy getting comments on my articles and photos.

I've been reading stuff on gather for more than a year and haven't gotten a gift card yet, although I just ordered one. I spend time here because lots of the stuff is better than what is in the Library. I think I might gather more now that I have realized I could actually make some supplemental income. I just used to read and not comment or rate stuff. Also, I got my computer limping along online and I don't have to share with three people anymore so I have a little more time.

I don't understand the points system and living in the UK I don't think I qualify any way.
I enjoy reading the articles and contributing and getting to know people on the otherside of the world. It has opened my eyes and certainly got rid of a few preconcieved ideas I had on the USA, we are not a lot different just seperated by a common language LOL.

Like a couple of other comments, I'm a foreigner and so, although we are awarded points, there is no way for us to redeem them - so I don't even bother to check how many points I've racked up, it would just irritate me!

I don't use Gather for the points. I use it for the interaction. My points pile up but I would give them away if I could. I noticed in the documentation that there is some way to give them to charity but I never found out how. Maybe some day.

I would probably spend less time though. I think of my commenting as helping everyone earn points and getting that special gift card they want.
