A made-up Amber Alert has turned to tragedy, with the supposed kidnapped child actually the victim of a tunnel cave-in, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol issued a statewide Amber Alert for 9-year-old Zane Newton who was reportedly kidnapped from Bakersfield at 10:35 Wednesday morning.
Upon further investigation, authorities learned that kids, including Newton, had been playing in a tunnel in Bakersfield when it collapsed. The 9-year-old apparently died in the cave-in. His friend made up the abduction story to authorities, said Sgt. Jarod Primcerio with Emergency Notification Tactical Alert Center.

This would be a good story for other children to learn from. Since my boys are in bed, I will sit down with them and tell them about this story and press why it is so important for them to tell me the truth right away. Noone will ever know if that boy could have had a chance if he got help right away.
I think it is important for parents to sit down with there children regardless of age and teach them things that could change the out come if something like this ever happened while they were playing. They might get into trouble for being where they were, but its alot better then a young life being taken.
This is just a tragic ending. I pray for the families to begin to heal.
oh my.
How that family must be grieving.
Thank you, Bob for letting us know about this story.
