Three children remained missing with their biological mother today, but the story behind their abduction in Carson Wednesday is significantly different than authorities originally thought.
Deputies initially said the biological mother held a gun on a foster parent and took the children at an Avalon Boulevard McDonald's restaurant, but later interviews with the foster parent determined no weapon was used.
"The initial sequence of events has changed drastically," Sgt. Mike Zymkowitz said.
The change meant the Amber Alert issued Wednesday evening was called off.
Deputies are still, however, looking for Damaris Ninet Amesquita, 30, and her children - Julissa Barrios, 9, who was wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans; Rebecca Barrios, 11, who was wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans; and Angel Amesquita, 2, who was in a blue-and-white T-shirt with blue jeans.
"We don't believe they are in harm's way even though she doesn't have standing to have them," Zymkowitz said.
The woman is described as Latina, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 250 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a gray T-shirt and blue jeans.
It does not appear that the father, Jose Angel Guzman Amesquita, 27, was involved, deputies said.
It also was unclear today whether they were traveling in a green 2000 Land Rover with the license plate number 5GKJ367.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carson sheriff's station at 310-830-1123.
Wouldn't the children still be in some sort of danger? Isn't that why they were removed from their parents' custody?
There is something that is not right or does not ring true about this abduction story. Some news accounts, as well as the NCMEC report the abduction occurring at approximately 1 p.m. on February 13th. Other news accounts report the abduction occurring at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Some news accounts state the visit with the parents was a scheduled, monitored visit. However, during an on-camera interview with one of the police officer he stated the foster parent phoned the biological mother to tell her that the youngest child was running a fever. The biological mother indicated she wanted to see her child and the foster parent agreed to meet the mother at the McDonald's parking lot location so she could see the child before he was taken to the doctor. Apparently that is when the father began pulling the children out of the foster parent's car and placing them in their car.
So, when did this abduction really take place? Did the foster mother just decide to give the children to the biological parents and delay the call to report the abduction to give them time to get away? Law enforcement has admitted the parents had by the time the alert was issued several hours head start. In the words of one officer - they could be anywhere.
Photographs of the children and the female abductor were not broadcast until 9 or 11 p.m. newscasts.
The NCMEC has not yet issued a missing poster for these children and do not yet have photos posted on their Amber Alert notification. The NCMEC has not canceled the Amber Alert on their site.

maybe they think they are no longer in this country ????
I hope those kids are found and are okay.
Then my ultimate question as a mother, I'd take my kids back, too and fight and do what's possible...
That right there answers the question - not in harm's way.. then why are they in foster care? They better get the story straight... that can be held in court for definition of character...
