I wondering why you can't not have one Amber Alert group, and let everyone who want Amber alerts come to them either join that group or subscribe to it. That way you don't have several people sending out the same allert several times !

There is an Amber Alert group, I belong to it. There might even be one more, I'm not sure. I know what you mean, Wendy, I received the forward on the Amber Alert over 25 times via emails. I can list my groups, if you'd like Emmett, or we can all (to those who haven't already) join the Amber Alert group?
I'm fine with the Alerts on my groups, but the emails got nuts, they were all forwards of each other.

I was thinking of starting a group just for that purpose as I get alot missing people notices in my regular mail scanning them in to a group. I don't know if that is allowed by gather though. Yes I'd love to post them on Post the moon www.postthemoon.gather.com which is my groups page. In fact, I'd be more than willing to feature Amber Alerts when they do appear as long as I'm alerted in advance. That is my group for everything and it has far more members than my other groups.

You could remember not to send it to the What You Taught Me and Map to Our Posts groups, because these are very specific groups that don't accept general articles. It's fine to post them to others. If that's too hard to keep track of, I'll just remove them as they come in. Just know it's nothing personal and I welcome these posts in all my other groups.

Your comment reminds me of the recent "misconception" that anyone who did not want to publish nonsense articles and spam the comment sections of these articles to benefit a specific charity was automatically a child-eating monster. I believe the official Amber Alert system does a remarkable job of getting the information out to the pubic so it is not necessary for you to publish articles on Gather to do the same. Since these messages have nothing to do with the topics of my groups, I do not think your articles are needed or appropriate in my groups. If Gather.com chose to run the Amber alert message at the top of the page, I believe that would be more appropriate. This does NOT mean that I do not want missing children found, that I do not like children, that you are a better person than I, or that I won't leave my computer to go out and look for missing children instead of publising an article about it - and I resent the implication in this article that it does.

For those whop have suggested, yes we are in the process of making a better organized effort that should mean less (or no) e-mails and have all the groups who allow them the only ones we send it to.

Thank you, Sandy, for putting it so well. I am not a child-eating monster, and if fact, I like children quite a lot. However, I am already tired of the amount of spam I've just gotten just for this message. I do not have time to open all those mails about an article being published just to find it is another amber alert about which I can do absolutely nothing. If I find too much of this sort of stuff, I will drop out of the groups that take the amber alerts--there were a lot of repetitive messages about amber alerts before this one.

I also get too many of these on regular email from well-meaning people. Some are several years old and listed as snopes.com as inaccurate. I wish people would check them on snopes before passing them on to their entire address book.

Please limit amber alerts to the group already set up for them. People who think they are out and about enough that they are likely to actually see such children can go there regularly to read the alerts. And before you list them, check snopes.com first.

I agree with Dorine.... I love children and have some of my own.. I would be devestated in having one of mine missing. It has really bogged down my email with over 50 messages just on one amber alert alone... who knows.. maybe a couple hundred... It would be nice if you kept them to the Amber alerts page so that i do not get repeats not only from you but there are about 6 other members sending out the same amber alert and it does get tiring and my carpal tunnel hurts from deleting all those message that are the same.

I will however allow you to post the articles to lothtl.gather.com my trucker's group as our families are out on the road on a daily basis an d see more than the regular person out there.

Are you still publishing articles to all groups listed above, or just to the Amber Alert group? ...or to both?

Is it your intent to then remove the article from all groups once the Amber Alert has been canceled?
