... a serving of bread is ONE slice?
Seriously... who eats a 1/2 a sandwich or eats one open faced? I just don't get that one at all.
I figured this one out this morning when making myself a hummus sandwich. Yes, hummus and yes, yummy.
In fact when my toddler saw me eating it he started screaming 'I want my hummus!'
He's still talking about it 30 minutes later. (I'll make him one, don't worry! He needs to eat his plate of cheese, crackers & fruit first though)

I know, that is dumb. Of course you could do like my mother does and buy the skinny sliced bread where two slices really is one serving but you know, that seems dumb too cuz that bread is super thin! LOL
Open face sandwich? How about a can of soda being two serving?
12 oz ones
I just figure my sandwich is two servings of grains, and thats enough to ease my mind
Sounds like a great fudge to me!
I don't know why they do that. Its so dumb, but then again a lot of people are dumb and might not be able to figure out how to 1/2 that if they have toast. LOL
I eat one piece of toast or peanut butter bread.
Your post brought back a childhood memory...of an aunt who was always dieting. She found some yucky diet bread that was so thin that you HAD to toast it to make a sandwich, otherwise it would fall apart. Then she cut off the crusts, and she'd have these two tiny pieces of bread with which to make her diet sandwich. I had forgotten about that. I remember tasting the bread and I thought it was sooooooo gross tasting. Don't know what was in it, but whatever it was would keep you from eating very much. :)
Oh my goodness, that bread DOES sound like it would keep you from eating too much!
LOL@Marilyn
haha, I guess I am dumb in words of teresa, but I never eat my sandwich with two slices of bread. It might sounds crazy, but I have never seen anyone eating bread with two slices together in europe. All of us eat just one slice of bread with butter, mustard and ham and that's it. Not another slice of bread. Haha, this is so funny, because when I have seen my husband eating sandwich with two slices I was thinking, ewww who wants eat all that bread? I want taste that good meat inside not that bread.
Now I feel bad because when writing this and asking this question I didn't even think about people in other countries eat their food!
Hmmm. I always thought people in Europe ate lots more bread than we do. :)
I do remember an extra thin bread, but this one tasted just like regular bread. Havent seen it in the stores much lately. The going bread now where I live ,is twice as thick as regular and called "Texas Toast"
I LOVE Texas Toast!
You know...I never saw Texas toast in Texas.
i don't know
Yeah, and who eats a piece of chicken the size of a deck of cards???
Haha. When my hubby was diagnosed with diabetes II and had to go on a 1500 calorie a day diet, he couldn't believe that anyone would be limited to 4 ounces of meat/fish/poultry per day.
LOL These comments were funny. lol
I've always wondered how one serving of peanuts could be about 39 (see a Planter's jar) but one serving of Peanut M&Ms is 6 - 7. I know there is chocolate, but it seems too big a downgrade to me.
I guess it works if they're counting on someone eating toast. Though, when I see the calories in a single piece of toast I do opt for the folded sandwich, or one cut in half.
oh ya. i know that all to well. i used to buy pettridge farms. they are thin slices of bread
What has perturbed me for as long as I can remember is the serving size being called a 'FACT'. How is that even possible?
Who knows? I am still going to eat my two pieces when I eat my sandwhich. ha ha ha
Sometimes I have half a sandwich and soup for lunch.
A lot of times I only eat half a sandwich, if I'm eating something else, too. ;) Elliott and I will split a sandwich and then eat salad or fruit or something.
Who decides these things anyway?
Hmmm. So when I eat half a loaf of french bread, with butter, and garlic salt... that would be... 12 or more servings I bet... LOL.
I personally would live off of bread if I could get away with it.
