Yesterday I wrote about the Clintons coming to town and that we'd be heading off to another city that day instead to check out a Vintage Motorcycle Show. Well, I don't think we'll be able to do that because part of our day today was spent in the emergency room! Rylan is almost 2 years old and for the past week he's been sick. It started off as just a runny nose and a cough, but he never had a fever so I wasn't too worried about it. I'm a pretty conservative mom when it comes to sick kids and have never been one to rush into urgent care or the emergency room for the slightest little thing. My mother-in-law is a nurse who works in the emergency room anyway so I get medical advice from her. Well, on Friday morning Rylan started vomiting. Again, no fever, but it got to the point where he wasn't able to keep anything down and would cry for something to eat or drink, but when I'd give it to him... he'd just throw it back up. I felt so bad for him and my husband and I decided that if he was still sick in the morning, we'd take him to the emergency room. I woke up to my husband standing over me with Rylan in his arms and a scared look on his face saying 'Uh... we need to take him in now'. I asked him to lay him down with me in bed and I was trying to talk to Rylan and he was just staring at the wall, completely out of it. His mouth was dry and his heart was just pounding! We loaded everyone up in the car and headed down to the hospital. They got him in really quick, but our visit ended up being 3 hours long. The doctor explained that usually when people vomit it's because they have an infection somewhere in their body, so they did a Strep test which came back positive. They also gave him a chest x-ray which made me cry because it seemed so barbaric! Poor little Rylan had to sit on this tiny bicycle seat looking thing with his legs dangling down through some small holes and was fully enclosed in this clear plastic tube with his arms straight up in the air! I tried so hard not to cry about it, but it was really sad to see him sitting there in that position and crying for one of us to just hold him again! The chest x-ray was normal (good!) and they gave him a dose of Ibuprofen for his sore throat and some awesome anti-nausea medication that worked in about 10 minutes. Now he'll be on antibiotics for 10 days and I know he'll get better soon because he's already feeling a lot better. Tonight he's been able to keep both fluids and solids down and he's changing back to his normal, active self. Faith

sometimes kid's get into the darndest things, it's good that you got him to the drs. in good time before this had gotten worse.
It is so hard on us moms to see our little ones sick.
I'm glad he is feeling better.
So glad he's feeling better. That's one of the hardest things for a little one to have.
