Chocolate Day at School....(photo essay)

February 14th was chocolate day for my 5th grade daughter. Angela had LOTS of work to relating to chocolate over the last few weeks, and each child had to "earn" their way into chocolate day.  Well, each of the kids had to make a cocolate item to bring in to share with the all the other 5th grade classes. Angela's item was chocolate truffles. Part of the rules said NO NUTS!...which I follow anyway, since I'm highly allergic. Needless to say, about 30% of the parents didn't listen, including the room mom for Angela's class (don't get me started about HER).

There were tables and tables of all kinds of chocolate creations.

I've never seen so much chocolate in one room....and then you get the occasional person that doesn't follow the directions at all....and sends in STORE BOUGHT SUGAR COOKIES.

I tried to get a good sampling of all the different ways chocolate was used by the kids. If it could be made with or from chocolate, it was!

Once we let in the 7 classes (yes, 200 kids) of 5th graders, chaos ensued.

Decisions, decisions... it was difficult to choose what to taste.

And as you can see, the chocolate didn't last long either....

Some of the girls from my daughter's class....this was the quietest I've ever seen them...that is, until the chocolate was gone....LOL

The chocolate was everywhere by the time the kids were finished.... I don't know if she realized that she had it on her nose.

We can't celebrate Valentine's Day at school, so this is one way the 5th grade teachers get around the rule. From helping out at this event, I learned that parents are the problem at the school, not the kids.

It is amazing how parents can't even seem to follow direction (nuts, sugar cookies).
It does look like a ton of fun though!

Fate has not been kind to me. A dream come true, a roomful of chocolate and I was no where around. So unfair. I hope this project was more fun for Angela than work. All that chocolate. Wow.

Wow, what an unusual event. Everything looks so good, I wonder how many kids got sick from eating too much, since it seems they could have as much as they wanted. Things sure have changed since mine were in school. It sounds very interesting and a great way to learn about chocolate.

one thing to bring sugar cookies...thats just DUMB... but what kind of morons ignore the fact that nuts can kill people? Yikes!

That's an awesome looking event! I'm envious that most everyone made stuff and brought it in. Right when my second son started school they made a rule that you could not bring in stuff that was homemade anymore. Which I totally understand but I was bummed because I always made cupcakes that were different things. Anyway, it looks like everyone had a great time. That sucks about a lot of people not following the rules :( I always make sure I read the papers that the kids bring home. And I'm really surprised that the room mom herself broke the rules. I got to be the room mom for my oldest son's class for the first time ever and I can't image not making sure I was following the rules that were handed out for an event like this.

This was really a neat photo essay - I loved each of the pictures and the fact the kids all made the stuff themselves - Ok well, I want to hear about the room mom now...since by 5th grade kids can read the ingredients and he should not have put nuts in - ok well I guess the mom's were supposed to monitor stuff...Salud.

Wow. What a spread. That just looks like so much fun for everyone involved.

And you are absolutely correct. The parents are 99% of the problem, not the children. I learned that by being a room and band mom. SOME parents stink.

Wow, all that chocolate looks really good. You did a good job of capturing all the stuff that was brought in. You think the parents would listen to the ("no nuts") rule as it could be really dangerous for someone who is allergic to nuts.
