I've learned my lesson a while ago. When it comes to Harry Potter, constant vigilance is essential.
So - from Thursday on, I have not left the house. No television, no newspapapers. Internet use limited to essential, work and family limited e-mail. As tempted as I was to go to the local Walmart for midnight on Friday, I resisted. Constant vigilance ;-)
Saturday morning my owl arrived at the usual time. It is a very reliable owl, you see... nowhere near snow white - and with a better temper than Hedwig's, but just as reliable. 10.30 a.m. on Saturday I finally got my hands on the Deathly Hallows - the book, that is ;-)
So I went and made some chicken salad. Finished decluttering the kitchen. Went and picked some tomatoes. Talked to my husband on the phone.
Then I sat down. Unlike some, I resisted reading the last line. Looking back, I am very glad I've made that decision. It would have spoiled the book for me greatly. I read the first hundred pages, got up and did some cleaning.
ANd that was the pattern for the day. Hundred pages, then some chores or a little nap. I wanted to make it last, you see. I have gotten better with my urges lately - I can even put away an ice-cream carton with ice-cream left in it!
All the rationing only helped that much. After lots of tears and lots of laughter it was over. At 8.30 p.m. I was able to breathe normally again. The journey was over. And as all journeys of my past, the good and the bad ones, it was worth it.
