Streaker and I have a new temporary stomping ground; Allatoona Lake and Cartersville, Georgia. Cartersville and the lake lie aproximately halfway between Atlanta and Chattanooga. We came here looking for work but so far what we've found, as always, is adventure. And in the midst of adventure we found a lovely new swimming hole, below the Allatoona Lake Dam.
The dam impounds run-off water from 1,110 square miles into a large, irregular-shaped lake. During periods of heavy rainfall, excess runoff is stored to alleviate floods in the lower Etowah Valley and to reduce flood heights as far north as Rome, Georgia. During dry periods, stored water is released to supplemenmt run-off for power, to produce streamflow and for recreation. We don't know too much about hydro power and induced streamflow but we sure have an inkling for the recreation.
Please enjoy the tour and along the way savor a quote or two. Until next time, happy hiking:

To see a world in a grain of sand
And Heaven in a wildflower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.
- William Blake

I do not pray for a lighter load, but for a stronger back. - Phillips Brooks

When a Baptist was asked about baptism, he replied. "It's all right, but you mustn't hang around the river too long." - E. StanleyJones

Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a Heaven for? - Robert Browning

Adversities do not make the man either weak or strong, but reveal what he is.
- Faith Forsyte

One person with a belief is equal to a force of ninety-nine who have only interests.
- John Stuart Mill

But men must know, that in this theater of man's life it is reserved only for God and the Angels to be lookers on. - Sir Francis Bacon

A conscience void of offence before God and man is an inheritance for eternity.
- Daniel Webster

Death comes not to the living soul, nor age to the loving heart.
- Phoebe Cary

And the angel showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
- Revelation 22:1

Gorgeous and cool--no pun intended.
Okay, yes, pun intended--Streaker is--as always--having a wonderful time. She really knows how to dive in and live!
This is a beautiful photo essay, Streaker is a cool dog.
Beautiful river, Streaker is beautiful.
BEAUTIFUL!

I just posted a hike through a campgrounds damaged by January s flood waters.
Robert these pictures are gorgeous. I will have to come there someday soon. Streaker is beautiful. But the quotes with the pictures really finish it off in grand style. Those is super.
Miss you!
Those are super and me a teacher!
Awesome! Loved the qoutes as well as the photos! What a grand adventure!
Streaker is always a pretty awesome tour guide.
Seriously, get that girl in motion pictures. Te he!
You two have found a profoundly spiritual beauty. Lovely place, lovely guide.
that is beautiful work, looks and sounds like such a peaceful place
Awesomely done Love the pics
These photos were gorgeous!
In this crazy old world it is your love of nature and walking out to commune with it, your faithful companion for these journeys, your keen photographer's eye and your poet's way with words and good taste in the choice of other poets words that keeps you sane.
The rest of us just get to enjoy the product of all that.
Rory, thanks but remember 'sane' and 'sanity' are relative terms.
My father used to say that everyone is crazy, it's just a matter of degree and direction.
The longer I live the more I think he was right.
I'm not gonna argue with your dad Rory. What he said makes sense to me and besides the more crazy I become the better my odds at beating a murder conviction.
My Mom always tolds me that insanity inherited, and she got it from her kids...
beautiful pics.
Hi Jodi, nice to see you. Streakers sends her love for dropping by......
Absolutely gorgeous scenery!
Hi Streaker and Robert!
BEAUTIFUL! I like that one picture of Streaker, it almost looks like she is smiling for you. It is the 5th picture from the bottom. Thank you so much for sharing
Streaker's kind of place I can see.
I like interspersing the photos and the quotes.
Thanks.

You've captured some very beautiful scenery, there, Robert. Looks like a great spot for relaxing, swimming or just watching the river go by. We can't do that here, below the dam... the currents are way too strong... but we can raft or float downstream in kayaks, canoes or rubber rafts. I suspect your water is much warmer than ours too. I think, just a wee bit less snow melt-off there. Brr. I just got a goose bump or ten thousand... thinkin' about jumping into our rivers. Egad!
Thanks for stopping by Dale. I'm from Maine, I used to jump in the Swift River every year on my birthday (May 1st). A couple of them years I had to make sure I didn't bang my head on the ice.
BEAUTIFUL PICTURES
A lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely set of images.
Four 'lovelies' from a lovely. Thanks Tracy.
Oh Robert! I used to go there all the time when we lived in the Atlanta area! What a wonderful surprise seeing this!
I loved your dog. I good dog is better than a pretty wife.
At least the dog minds better.
This is the best. Now I know why I miss Georgia. Being born and raised in Georgia I use to go to the lake and the rivers. If you're lucky you can find a quiet spot and be one with nature. It's a very peaceful feeling. Beautifully done. And Streaker looked like she was enjoying herself completly. Wish I could have been there.
Me too Vickie; I always like mingling with the natives......
"If you're lucky you can find a quiet spot and be one with nature"
Or really lucky and find a girl and be TWO with nature.
I'd rather be with a special man. LOL
How beautiful. What a wonderful tribute to the beauty that nature shares with us. And so great that you could share that with your four legged companion. The quotes were touching and interesting as well. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Peace
Great essay.
Thanks for sharing this to our Kodak Moment group.
Looks like a lovely place
Another great outting with Streaker, wonderful place and photos.
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
thanks!
You go, Streaker!
What a great photo essay
Great photos!! It looks so peaceful & serene!
Glad you and Sreaker are enjoying Georgia! I'm heading down to Sarasota next Saturday for a week on the beach my my sons.
Hello Phaedra, thanks for stopping by. Enjoy yourself in Florida, you and your sons be safe. Streaker just bounced in the computer room. I told her you said hello and are on the way to Florida. She reminded me that of the twenty or so states she has visited she hasn't made it to Florida. She wants you to bring her back a tee-shirt. Funny dog, T's are for people.
:+)
Tell her I will see what I can find, as I have to bring one back for Katie too. I'm off to Marrietta today to see my dad for a visit. Who knows maybe my phone will ring while I'm out that wat. Have a wonderful day.
I told her Phaedra and she wagged her tail. She says she has some 'connections' and would like to treat you to lunch upon your return from Florida.
I have never been to that part of the state, Georgia is beautiful but you have captured the tranquil essence here. Thank you and have a great day darlin' !
I think when God wants to smile, He looks at Robert and Streaker. That's when the sun shines brightest....God's smile.
This is so wise: "I do not pray for a lighter load, but for a stronger back"
You knopw we love you Jan and we always wish you and yours health & happiness & the Lord's blessings.
outstanding my Robert, outstanding,,, wish I were there,,, trees and more trees,,, love it,,, Streaker Blessings too,, Bless you,,,
Robert, you are just as great with a lens as with a pen.!!! And I agree with Rory's first beautifully worded assessment on that.
As far as the insanity thing--I'll just quote good ole Waylon ( Jennings that is):
'I'VE ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY--BUT IT'S KEPT ME FROM GOING INSANE.'' Lonnie
Nice PHOTO ESSAY Robert!
