Hope Assigned
©Robert C Burnham
You taught me how to love
By the way that you loved me
And by your spiritual sustenance
To see what you could see.
You gave to me through who you were
The gift of all I am
Your pride in me, my confidence
Your faith, my caravan.
Your life did not conclude with death
Nor will it end with mine
For every life that I might touch
Will be the hope that you assigned.
Each little smile I pass along
That brightens someone’s day
Is only because I listened
And learned what you had to say.
