The Sea

Dedicated to Yanni for his Music
Concert and love of the Sea

White frothed waves rolling in,
casting their treasures on the sand.

Sometimes stormy gray she rides;
Seagulls flying, hear their cries.

Hidden beneath billowing foam;
crabs and clams and anemone.

Mighty majestic, wild and free;
Beautiful but treacherous, is the sea.

Rolling in upon the tide;
Casting treasures, far and wide.
Seashells and starfish litter the sand;
Castles built by childish hand.

Whales and dolphin play and cavort;
the sea world home and heart.

On balmy days, she softly sighs;
rolling waves beneath blue skies.

Waves come rolling gently in;
Erasing where our footprints have been.

Deep and wide is the sea;

Lapping waves a lullaby at night;
Sending our dreams on fantasy flight.

singing a carefree song to all;
I cannot resist her siren call.
On November 19th, 2004 I had the great honor and pleasure to attend a Yanni concert with my husband AJ. Yanni had a spectacular concert full of color and a large screen showing some of his life and home in Greece and his love of the sea in accompaniment with the music. The photos shown in this essay are not from his concert, they are photos I took on trips to the ocean in Oregon with my family at different times. The poem is my own original work. I created this poem and one entitled Color of Beauty inspired by Yanni and his musical orchestra the evening before.
