My children think it's sad that my life revolves around my visual cortex, but I believe it works to my benefit. When I walk down a street, I see the rust on an iron gate and notice the age that has withered and twisted a tree trunk. When a man has deep lines etched into his face, I'm intrigued and want to know how he lived and what produces those lines. I want to preserve his history, record his life, know the intimate details that make him what he is. How do I explain to my children that this is what makes me tick? I do it with passion because I love what I do. If my life were spent in a cubbyhole answering a phone with the same message repeated a thousand times, my mind would shut down and my body would soon follow. Maybe it's their job to ridicule and jab at the core of my existence. Maybe their scrutiny helps me understand how important my life is to me.

Nothing in the world can cut through a parent faster than the withering look of a teen. God bless them --- and may they enjoy the same some day.
Viewing the world as you do adds so many layers to the experience of being alive.
I am fortunate that my son loves the lens even more than me....so he can't make fun of me for that, although there are plenty of other reasons!
I was wondering....did you ever think about taking photos of wacky people at your local coffee shop?
My dad was an auditor--as a child, who understands such a position? I said I would never be a businesswoman, carrying a briefcase.
So... I may not carry a briefcase, but I did get my MBA! Wouldn't have thought it possible as a teen.
Love the photos, especially the second. Surely there is a story there.
