Friday while shopping with my daughter and three of my grandkids for last minute need items for our big 4th of July celebration I was carded. My husband and son had asked me to pick up a 12 pack of beer. I don't drink beer, Blah! tastes awful to me. Anyway I got the beer and several other items we would need to have a good party. Then proceeded to the check stand at Wal-mart. When I placed the beer on the counter this gal says. I need to check your ID. What!!!! Sheesh my 31 year old daughter is with me and three of her kids. I said you have got to be kidding. At my age. I have gray hair and look like a grandmother or thought I did. LOL. But she says. Nope you don't look old enough.
Give me a break. Your kidding right??? This is my daughter she is 31. The gal said she looks 14, you look maybe 16-17. I sigh and give her my ID. I then tell her I sure the heck don't know any girls age 17 that have gray hair. She said you never know in this day and age.
She apparently was satisfied the drivers license was not forged or something and rang up the case of beer. I felt rather flattered in some respects but she had to be just giving me a bad time. When I got to the car I looked in the mirror at my gray hair and I looked tired and worn out too which I was and hot.
I looked at my daughter and said that the checker was a nut case. Look at me. I most certainly do NOT look 17. She laughed and said I know you look like your 35 and people are always still carding her. Most don't think she is 31 but 14 or 15. Still If I look 35 and I will 58 next month. That is not to bad. I do know people who first meet me and don't know me do think I am between 35 and 42. I just cannot believe that gal thought I was 17. She had to be just harassing me. What do you think

I remember, oh, at least 25 years ago ... maybe a tad longer ..... when my UNCLE got carded [he was in his 40s at the time] ...... He came out of the state store laughing his behind off ....... It made his day and he felt younger for at least a week ... lol ...... Take it as a compliment ......
When this happens I just show my drivers license. I would hate for anyone to lose their job. These people put up with alot and work hard enough without some hassle from me.
I am almost 33 and get carded all the time.
I am told I look like I am 16-17
Damn baby face and being pale with freckles!
Some people card everyone because its easier to be in the habit of carding all
rather than pick and choose because you just never know.
They can lose their jobs if they don't card and someone wasn't of age or if its
someone undercover knowing that they have to card anyone who looks under the age of 30.
Be flattered and honored to have been carded. I hope when Im older I still get carded :)
The only time I don't get carded is when I am with my better half. He is a lot older and about 90% gray. I kid him that he is bad for my image.
And now she has something to talk with her buddies about.
Many years ago, when I was about 34 or 35, I had a fellow teacher who was from India, in her mid 20s, petite and very young looking. One Saturday we went to an Indian restaurant together for lunch and ordered Indian beer. The waiter told her he needed to see her ID and she started to take it out. It was one of those oppressively hot days when the heat fuddles your brain and then you enter AC and get even more befuddled. I reached for my ID, wondering what it was all about. The waiter waved a hand at me and said, "Not you, just her. I can see you're old enough for the beer."
On New Year's Eve 2000 we had a huge street festival in Philadelphia, including tents set up selling champagne (well, American bubbly). Signs all over them demanded ID or else. We had gone out in our coats but I didn't have my bag, so no ID. I went to the line and asked if my grey hairs were ID enough. He laughed and waved me in.
My cousin and one of his friends were in a play at around 16 or so, and the make-up for his friend was so good he looked like he was easily in his 40's. To test the theory, they tried to buy alcohol, and succeeded. They didn't drink it, they both waited until they were 21 on the dot of midnight before indulging (so rare!) but it proved that there are ways around age, and a smart cashier cards EVERYBODY. I know I did, when I worked at Wal-Mart, I even carded my mom for cigarettes. She quit buying them there because of it, lol, but I can't tell my custimers I card everyone if I pick and choose.
I once asked for the id of a woman that was 48, she was buying cigarettes. She really looked 16 to me, she weighed about 80 lbs., had her hair in pig tails, and was an african american........
I have been carded a few times when I least expected it though (flattering, in my view). And yesterday left my ID at home but had to run out to get some beer for the construction crew working on a friends house. I carefully selected a spot where I thought I wouldn't get carded, and sure enough.... I walked out with beer.
So, I guess it goes both ways.
I guess when underage purchasing of beer is outlawed, only the outlaws will be able to purchase beer underage! lol
here's drinkin to y'all
